Avoid the Club Sites, stick to the CL Sites, even though some of them are getting expensive. Every time I want to stop at a Club Site I get palpitations at the prices they want. This is definitely my last year with them. It may be a Club for the members, but it does not reflect it in the prices they charge.

I'm afraid you're still going to have to be a member to use the the CL network but I agree with your sentiments on club sites and there are many alternatives on offer.

Get yourself a refillable gas cylinder, set yourself up with solar panels and lithium batteries. A fair bit of capital outlay but it will enable you to use off-grid CL's, non EHU pitches and give you 'real' freedom.

Fully agree except you don't have to go to the expense of lithium batteries. You can use lead acid or AGM

They just need a bit more care.

Especially if you just want the flexibility to go off grid now and again. Not sure why extra care is needed, perhaps DC can explain further?

Indeed. I had the solar panels fitted to keep the cab and hab batteries topped up in storage. However, we have found the additional advantage of using them for a few days on off grid Aires in France. We only have one AMG hab battery and 180watts of solar, but had no issues in both June and September, even using the TV. The battery was recharged easily by the end of the day.

Dont think i would like to be doing that in many parts of the EU including the UK during the long hot summer months when everywhere is tinder box dry, no open fires were permitted in large areas of France, Spain and the UK  last year undecided

Merely pointing out the fact that lead acid or AGM batteries shouldn't be allowed to discharge as low as you can go with a lithium.

Therefore it pays to keep an eye on the state of charge.

If it helps-don’t go into the middle of a tinder dry straw field, don’t build a big fire in high winds, always have a big bucket of water handy, don’t set a fire where regs suggest you shouldnt๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป. I hope this helps-I already abide by these rules, it’s why I’ve done it for many decades without an issue Rufs๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ˜Š
