Maps from the internet

I have bought paper Ordnance Survey maps for the areas I like to walk in the most, but you can use websites like StreetMap to print out a paper copy (OS 1:25000 or 1:50000) of the area (A4 size) you will be walking - saves spoiling your OS map, and you can draw your route on it, notes etc.

You can have maps on your smartphone, but in view of news item about someone who relied on their phone's map in a wild area and then got stuck when the phone's signal failed, I would always take a paper copy, too!

If you are looking round a town or city, where the phone signal should be ok, you can save buying a paper map by following your smartphone's sat nav.
