Great CL

Stayed 3 nights. Now has 5 level gravel hardstandings with gravel roadways each with water and ELH. As said before just keep going and you get there, pretty narrow in places but ok. Mrs Taylor is a busy lady but very friendly and usually there late afternoon/early evening. Fantastic walks from there. Rhossilli beach and downs. Broughton Bay and Whiteford Sands to the north and a selection of hills nearby. Highly recommended.

Wanted to stay longer

Not much to add to the already positive reviews on Barraston Hall Farm other than to say we wanted to stay longer. We've just completed a tour of Wales and this CL on the tip of the Gower peninsula was the highlight of all the sites we used (3 of which were CAMC club sites). A good level hard-standing pitch with both EHU and water. Other facilities were a bit more basic but exactly what I expected and wanted from a CL and working farm so no problem there. The helpful owner met us as we arrived on site and gave us some ideas for days out. Beautiful views in all directions, including the sea in the distance and a 10 minute walk to both the beach (we had a great day on the beach) and the local pub (we didn't try the food but the beer was good and the terrace outside gives a view of both the farm and the sea). Perhaps one bit of advice - when you follow the directions and you think you've gone as far as you can go, leave the tarmac behind, cross the bridge and follow the gravel track through the gate. The CL sign is on the gate of the field itself, not the approach and I wasn't sure I'd got the right place! A wonderful site - we will be back.

Perfect location for Rhossili Bay & Beach

Having spent 12 nights on this wonderful Cl, it is a site where the wife is reluctant to leave 😀.

The owner of the CL we found was extremely friendly and helpful, even lending us her ordinance survey map of the area, always pleasant to chat to 😀.

Not many CLs have your own water tap on each pitch, good hardstandings and lovely mowed lawn. At the back of the field, through a gate ,and you are on a well trodden path to Rhossili Bay, literally less than 10 minutes walk. Rhossili Bay is voted the 3rd best beach in Europe according to trip advisor and you can immediately see why. The beach is 31/2 miles long, the most wonderful walk to Rhossili, up the steps at the end to a picture perfect coastal village, where you can enjoy a ☕️ Or 🍰, or whatever takes your fancy in the cafes that are their. Worms Head is well worth an extra walk to as well. All this without using your car— amazing Further along the coast, the amazing Three Cliffs Bay, you have to go to believe the views and quality of the beaches, cliff top walks etc. In all we are very sad to leave and will most definitely return.

Can't wait to return

Only stayed one night of our booking due to the rain we suffered during our Welsh exploration. Level hard standings with water and EHU to each. Great view from the pitch, short walk to the village pub which we didn't try due to the weather. Previous review complained of the host's unavailability, she works hard on her primary business as a farmer, we met during a break in the weather whilst searching for the nearest route to the beach. Mrs. Taylor was most friendly ensuring we found the right path and that everything else was ok. It was a short walk over the hill to the beach which was gorgeous and full of activity with surfing, paragliding and windsurfing. We left early because of accumulative wet weather but will definitely return. Yes I had to lift the manhole cover to empty the Elsan but that didn't worry me a jot. The site was everything I hoped it would be when I chose it.

Absent owner

We contacted the owner by phone prior to our stay although this was difficult due to call guardian on the phone so had to leave a message. She called back and explained directions and to use the hard standing. She did explain that work was in progress on other hard standings and we accepted this. We arrived at lunch time in pouring rain so waited to call up to the house. No other vans in we weren't sure what to do. We tried the house but no answer, 2 dogs on chains in the barn barking so left for a walk. Owner still absent by 11pm. Dogs barking continuously, very stormy night. The place felt creepy so we decided to leave. We've been camping for many years and this is our first experience of being let down badly. We felt totally alone and vulnerable and very concerned for the dogs as there seemed to be no visible care of these animals There was no attempt by the owner to explain her absence. We would not recommend this site because of the neglect in her duty as site owner.

Lovely little place

Stayed for just 3 nights. Lovely and isolated which is just what we like. Very nice owners who could not have made us more welcome. Great area for walking and a short walk to the local pub. 10 minute walk to a wonderful beach. Look forward to coming back.

Our Favorite!

If you like your CLs totally basic then this is the one for you! Fresh water and a waste point and that is it! A large field next to the owners farm house. Flat at the bottom and then sloping up to the top. If you don't mind the slope the top of the field is where you will be rewarded with stunning views across to Pembray and Hardings Down. Access to the paths at top of the field which will take you down to Hillend and Rhossili Bay in about 20 mins walk. The beach is in the top 10 on the planet and is stunning. Hillend has a small expensive shop and a café. Llangennith is a lovely little village dominated by the Kings Head PH. Lovely selection of beers / ale and a huge whiskey selection! Food is OK in the pub but not really much to write home about. Better to have a BBQ then take a stroll over to the pub which you can see from the top of the CL! We all love Barraston Farm. But don't tell anyone else!

for walkers and surfers

Great location for Rhossili Down - footpath goes alongside camping field. 10 minute walk to Hillend where there is a cafe and toilets (belonging to expensive campsite that doesn't take dogs!), and footpath across dunes to beach.  In this car park you can book surf lessons from www.llangennithsurflessons.co.uk which were excellent.   Site slopes quite a bit, and our levelling blocks weren't really sufficient - must buy some heavy duty ones!  Nothing in local village so do need to stock up before arrival. Isolation was good for our teenagers, no mobile reception meant hilarious card games instead. We had lousy weather beginning of May with low cloud/fog, but on a good day would be glorious.
