Beautiful little gem of a site with outstanding scenery

What a gem we found with stunning views over rolling hills & edged by a beautiful bluebell wood on three sides with an abundance of wildlife, including Red Kites & Deer . Will not hesitate to return when in the area - stunning :-)

Beautiful spot

Stayed here in October/November and plan to return in the near future. The approach did not pose a problem and the view from the site is lovely. Saw several deer on the field whilst there and when it was dark were fascinated watching the planes in the distance "stacking" over Heathrow (we presumed) Looked like an extract from War of the Worlds! We found the owner very pleasant and helpful. Whilst there we went to the NT Basildon Park which is well worth a visit and has beautiful gounds to walk in. A lovely tranquil site!

Stunning views and walks

Very lovely owner no rush to leave he said. Just absolutely fantastic walks very rural. Will be definitely visiting this site again as its probably the best one weve ever been to and weve done over 50 sites.

About that access . . .

We’ve just returned after a four night stay at Bennets Wood Farm and had a wonderful stay despite some pretty dire weather towards the end of it. The site IS very basic (just CWD and fresh water) but the payback is an idyllic spot, with almost no non-nature related noise and truly glorious views across the valley. The only downside is that we almost never stayed here because we were concerned about previous reviews suggesting that access was a problem.

Just for clarity we have a large twin axle caravan that’s approx. 8m long and also slightly wider than standard vans (though not quite as wide as something like a Hobby). We tow with a Land Cruiser so as you can imagine the overall outfit is certainly not small. The route to the site is fairly straightforward if you follow the directions given. In fact our sat nav took us straight there using the correct route since the only alternative is quite a detour. Once you get off of the main road (A329) there is a mile or so of narrow country lane which, despite what previous reviewers have said, does have several passing places. When we arrived there was an oncoming car but . . . to say getting past it was uneventful would be an understatement. I agree that if we had met another towing vehicle coming the opposite way it may have been somewhat challenging but given that it took all of five minutes to complete that section the chance of that happening is mathematically remote.

There is a reasonably steep section on the approach road which if tackled too cautiously could lead to some fun and games stopping and starting, particularly if your tow car is marginally powered but we had absolutely no problems negotiating the hill without stopping at all. Certainly not steep enough to endanger a clutch, and definitely not on the way out (it's pretty much all down hill). If you are at all unsure I’d recommend using Google Street view to familiarise yourself with the route, but bear in mind that the street view camera makes the road appear narrower than it is. In fact I've just posted a video on YouTube of the approach at.-

Which includes some photos of the site.

We really do recommend visiting this site for all of the reasons given by the other reviewers, not to mention the fact that it is, dare I say it, ridiculously underpriced for such a location and therefore very good value. Please don’t be put off by concerns about access like we almost were, you’ll be missing out on one of the best CLs we’ve stayed at.

A Wonderful CL site - a secret gem!

We love this site and come very often.  I have just booked in again for the Bank Holiday week.  The site is so peaceful with lots of wild life around; Deer, Hares, Owls, and other lovely birds.  The scenery from the site is fantastic, - really great if you love walking and photography.  Also the owner is extremely friendly and helpful.  Yes, it is a little off the beaten track but we have never had a problem getting in and out with our motorhome (just over 6 metres).  Its the location that makes it so peaceful so its worth making the effort for sure.

Lovely CL but...

A very pleasant and tranquil CL site set in the rolling Berkshire countryside.  The only issue is that access is via some very narrow lanes which may not suit the faint hearted. No particular problem with a 7.5m motorhome, but large towed outfits might struggle. The grass on site was closely mown and the owner was very welcoming.

Access Awful

Access is awful-stayed three nights and worried about getting the van out in one piece with the car clutch still working. No passing places in about 2 miles.Grass very long.
