Looking at my caravan logbook, I find that we have visited this site on no less than 43 occasions since the site opened in 2007. You could say we like it, it’s a gem! From day one, Anne and Brian have been welcoming and eager to please and after so many visits we regard them not just as our hosts but as old friends. Although the site is some distance from the A6, the connecting lanes are more than adequate for caravans and access onto the site is very good. Being a working farm in the heart of the countryside the nearest shop is a good four miles away but the local market town of Garstang, about six miles away, is a good shopping centre with a selection of supermarkets and a charming ‘Olde World’ atmosphere on it’s narrow and bustling High Street. If walking or cycling is your forte then Broadgate Farm is an ideal location, quiet lanes and a plethora of footpaths make the area very popular with both visitors and local groups alike. If fell walking is not to your taste then a short car drive up Beacon Fell and a leisurely stroll from the car park up to the summit gives glorious views over Lancashire and the Fylde coast. Being on the wrong side of 70 we don’t want a busy or noisy site and so the peaceful and relaxing nature of Broadgate is great and the views of the surrounding fells are fantastic, particularly when viewed from the nearby bird hide, a short up-hill gentle walk away. Electric and water points are shared between every two pitches so no humping water barrels in the pouring rain, yes, it does rain even in the Forest of Bowland! Dogs and children are regular visitors on site providing some entertainment and a focal point for getting to know our neighbours, and the wildlife is plentiful - pheasants wander around the site as if they own it! To sit and relax with a glass of wine after a nice barbeque and to watch the sun set behind the hills is something to savour. Roll-on visits 44, 45, 46 .....
