Perfect CL

Broadgate Farm is off the beaten track which is exactly what we are looking for in a CL. Upon arrival we were immediately overwhelmed by the beauty of the location and the layout of the site itself. The site was empty so we were free to choose our pitch. No we weren't greeted on arrival but that suits us just fine! Everything was clear and obvious. The reception room held plenty of local information including maps of walks in the area. We did the Calder Valley walk from the site, about 12 miles in total. The CDP was more than adequate. Recycling facilities were good. Water was virtually adjacent to each pitch. Yes we could hear farm machinery but it was patently obvious that this a working farm with extremely hard working farmers! At £15 a night I can't understand why this site isn't full.... But that was to our gain.... Such peace in stunning surroundings.... We'll be back.

Peaceful and friendly site

My wife and I have stayed at this site on two occasions over the past month and on each occasion we have had a very warm welcome from Anne the site owner. She has been very informative about the surrounding area and local walks and provides laminated walks in the area. Anne has also been very informative about how work on the farm has diversified which was interesting. The staff who work on the farm are all very polite and helpful. The pitches are well spaced out with open views and water points between two pitches. The site is very peaceful with no road noise. There is a lot of wildlife in the area and there is even a bird hide on the site for members to use. An altogether lovely site with a lovely owner we will return.

Nice site

Been to this site a few times over the last 5years.we are in a motorhome and we like it as there are some nice walks from the site.and the owner has laminated some nice walks starting from the site. The site is basic but that's what we prefer.this site is out in the countryside so if smells and noise from farm machinery isn't your cup of tea.

SUPERB SITE

What a fabulous CL this is. A warm friendly welcome from the owner. A very good little reception room with lots of information / walking sheets Hard standings (6) water tap for each pair of pitches, electric points and waste facilities. The surrounding fields are full of lapwings, snipe, curlews, partridge and pheasants and the nearby woods have deer grazing. The local area is a walkers paradise - plenty of superb routes through super scenery - AND several great tea rooms to recover in!! The owner is happy to help / offer advice re places to visit and walking routes. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED SITE. Footnote: other reviews have referred to machinery noise. This is a working farm, it processes wood chipping, a heat exchange unit runs 24/7, there is some background noise BUT it had no adverse or interfering effect during our visit (and I for one am a very light sleeper!!)

One of our favorites

Similar to JC we too have been coming here since it first opened. We never tire of visiting and love the peace and quiet. Yes the new Bio fuel business does emit some noise but after our most recent visit it does seem to be quieter than our visit last year. What noise there is you become accustomed too fairly quickly. The hard standings seem to have had a new covering of stone this year. We will keep on returning :-)

We've been here before

Looking at my caravan logbook, I find that we have visited this site on no less than 43 occasions since the site opened in 2007. You could say we like it, it’s a gem! From day one, Anne and Brian have been welcoming and eager to please and after so many visits we regard them not just as our hosts but as old friends. Although the site is some distance from the A6, the connecting lanes are more than adequate for caravans and access onto the site is very good. Being a working farm in the heart of the countryside the nearest shop is a good four miles away but the local market town of Garstang, about six miles away, is a good shopping centre with a selection of supermarkets and a charming ‘Olde World’ atmosphere on it’s narrow and bustling High Street. If walking or cycling is your forte then Broadgate Farm is an ideal location, quiet lanes and a plethora of footpaths make the area very popular with both visitors and local groups alike. If fell walking is not to your taste then a short car drive up Beacon Fell and a leisurely stroll from the car park up to the summit gives glorious views over Lancashire and the Fylde coast. Being on the wrong side of 70 we don’t want a busy or noisy site and so the peaceful and relaxing nature of Broadgate is great and the views of the surrounding fells are fantastic, particularly when viewed from the nearby bird hide, a short up-hill gentle walk away. Electric and water points are shared between every two pitches so no humping water barrels in the pouring rain, yes, it does rain even in the Forest of Bowland! Dogs and children are regular visitors on site providing some entertainment and a focal point for getting to know our neighbours, and the wildlife is plentiful - pheasants wander around the site as if they own it! To sit and relax with a glass of wine after a nice barbeque and to watch the sun set behind the hills is something to savour. Roll-on visits 44, 45, 46 .....

Think therei s a conflict of interest at this site

Recently arrived here for a 7 nite stay with two other caravanning couples, the approach roads and access were fine and the welcome from the lady owner was very good and friendly, we were allocated pitches 2,3 & 4. However, on pitching up we were immediately aware of a constant noise coming from one of the adjacent farm buildings and on discussing this with another couple already on site found out the noise continued 24 hours a day. We mentioned this to the lady owner who was understanding and said she would see if it could be turned down a bit at nite but confirmed it could not be turned off completely. Apparently the building houses a timber drying unit and is involved in the production of wood chips/pellets and they have made a very big investment in the business. We said we would see how it went for a nite and she helpfully told us of another CL down the road if the noise proved unacceptable. Early evening though, the whole CL was suddenly engulfed in thick wood smoke coming from one of two stainless steel chimneys on the building, and I am not being overly dramatic in saying our clothes and vans stank of it and our throats were getting sore. I went to the farmhouse and saw a nice chap who was very apologetic and said it should not be doing that and that he would shut the unit down. After about an hour and another 2 trips to the house there was still some smoke but the chap said to give it time and the smoke should stop. At this point we decided the site was not for us and rang round and managed to find another CL with 3 pitches. I told the farmer we were leaving and he apologised and did not try to charge us or anything. So we left that nite and got to our new CL about 10pm that evening. In summary I would say the smoke may be an occasional occurrence and affected by the wind direction but the noise is constant and noticeable, certainly on those three pitches. Nice owners but conflict of business interests here. .

Rural CL in pleasant countryside

We stayed here for 4 days in July. Weather was mixed. The CL access and pitches are hardstanding and have now blended in so there isn't that harsh look. Nice walks from CL , there is a bird hide (purpose built wooden building) within 75 yards of the CL . The Tramper trail (Mobility scooter route) is accessible from the CL too. Overall very relaxing CL in a very nice remote area. Owners very welcoming and have created an information room. Would return again at any time of year.

Excellent Farm Site

This was our second visit to this CL and it is still as good as we remembered. The access along the farm road was good. The owner is very friendly and there is plenty of tourist information available. There was plenty of wildlife to keep us entertained, numerous bird species, hares and even a stoat appeared briefly.

Gem of a CL

This is one of our favourite CL's, fantastic views, tranquil, kids loved taking our dog up on the hill.  Owners are very friendly and helpful. Pitches are nice.
