Return visitor love this site

Never get round to writing reviews but the sun is shining and so peaceful. We have stayed here a few times now and I love this site. It’s not that far from where we live but it’s so peaceful and well kept. The site is spotless grass well kept and level. Water and grey waste attaches to site. EHU points well spaces out so plenty of room for everyone. There is a separate toilet block that again is spotless clean. There is a track from the site through the fields and then to a bridal way taking you down to the river bank. Someone munition a horn from the railway line well yes have heard this a couple of times but so much in the background hardly noticeable. Access to the site is very easy so even a large twin axel will have no issues. There is a great little butchers nearby but you have to follow the signs really good as our first visit we thought it must be wrong as it takes you into a residential area but stick with it, it’s there and you will be pleased you found it. There is a pub almost next door dog friendly great food and nice staff they also do take out pizza and they are to die for (I do love a pizza) The owner is helpful she comes along a couple of times a day to make sure all is good and have a little chat. Goes without saying we will be back again in a couple of months.

Lovely site - spoilt by disrespectful family

We booked this site a couple of weeks ago and had a lovely break but it was spoilt by a young family with six children. From the moment they arrived, everything changed. The kids ran riot, kicking footballs, climbing trees and creating havoc. Their dogs were let loose and came into our tent, as well as poo-ing nearby - which was not cleared up. When the owners of a neighbouring van asked the children not to 'play' nearby (as we had) they told their father who then 'fronted' them in an aggressive way. We had never seen anything like it and the poor man said that in 27 years of using CAMC sites, neither had he. The owners of the site were left with a difficult choice as we were all going to leave. Thankfully, she asked the uncivil family to go and although they protested, they did, but not before making as much noise as possible, revving engines and calling out names. The owner of this site should be commended as she handled a very difficult situation extremely well. The CAMC should take note and ban families that act like this - it's one reason we joined as we got fed up with this sort of behaviour at other sites.

Everything a CL should be

First of all the nitty gritty:- The site is level and the electricity hook ups are well spaced out. Access from the road is easy even for larger units. The site is well kept and the owner very friendly making a tour of the site in the morning and evening to check if all was OK and to stop for a chat. TV reception is variable there being more than one transmitter mast from which signals can be received. There is a large supermarket ( a CoOp) in the next village (Manning tree) with a good selection of all requirements, meat bread wine beer etc etc. The site has good access to Alton Water either by car or bus which run every hour. The site has a view south across the Stour Estuary and there is a lovely walk down a small lane to the sea wall and then along the banks of the estuary towards Stutton The small pub in the village of Stutton, The Gardeners Arms has a good selection of proper beers but unfortunately for some is not dog friendly but since we do not have a dog this was of little consequence. The walk back along the road is to be avoided so retrace back to the sea wall and back to the site. The site itself is quite although there is the occasional siren/hooter from the railway line that passes about a quarter of a mile away. This was infrequent but was the only reason for the 4 stars under peace and tranquility. At late evening on all nights during our stay we were entertained by two bats that were hunting for insects within a few metres of our caravan. All in all it is a well kept friendly site which can be used as a base to explore the Shotley Peninsular including Alton Water or just to sit and relax taking in the views across the estuary. We did both during our short stay of five nights and will certainly return. Thank you for a lovely weekend.

Lovely gem of a CL

If you like peace and quiet and excellent river views on a working farm, complete with beauty spa next door then this is the CL for you. The owner is very inviting and nothing too much trouble. The site is well kept and plenty of space between pitches. There is a very clean and looked after toilet here too. Beautiful views to river stour and the walks here are magnificent. There is a pub in walking distance which although on it's website states it's dog friendly, you are shoved with your dog into a bare, cold with no atmosphere side bar which we when visited was empty and freezing!!!! We will definitely be returning to this CL I was even in two minds whether to share our experience as I don't want to miss out on a pitch due to it being fully booked!
