This is a very small site and in the winter very muddy. We requested a pitch with an awning and were shown to a concrete base clearly we were not putting an awning up.The site is basically a stables car park a busy stables at that , we will not be visiting again and we don't mind roughing it a bit.
Taking a chance is what you do on this site. As others have said it is very small and shaped a bit like a squarish triangle! If you have one caravan at the three points and one on the back hedge then you all have a wonderful view over fields of horses and cows in the distance and it would be a site that I would return to time and again. But when you get that fifth caravan parked along the field side of the site then all you can see is caravan. The only sounds I heard while there for ten nights were the occasional horse's hooves trotting by, sheep in the distance, and an owl woke me one night with its magical call. The grass was cut while we were there and the distance to empty the toilet was no further than you occasionally have to go on a CC site. The shower and toilet were a bit far away for comfort but perfectly usable and the water was hot.
We had friends staying in the holiday cottages which was the reason for choosing this site and the welcome that they and we got on arrival couldn't have been warmer and more helpful.
You are right in the centre of the Peaks and the scenery around is magnificent and there are great walks around the farm and further afield from the site.
The only reason I have given it an overall 3 is because of the risk of that fifth caravan.
This is a lovely small site but must stress the word small. When we arrived we received a warm welcome and were given a choice of pitch. We settled in but found that once the 5th caravan had arrived and set up that there wasn't a lot of space between the vans depending on length and awnings etc. I think a re-think of the layout of the site may be required. Also the facilities I.e toilet/shower and chemical disposal point are well away from the site and as we had people in our party who could not walk that far didn't use them and reverted to our inboard facilities. As we have a large outfit I do not think that we would revisit this site again.
We stayed at Cowdale Hall for the recent Bank Holiday weekend. The owner greeted us on arrival and could not have been more friendly and helpful. The site is in a beautiful and peaceful area, away from the busy roads and yet near to Buxton (so you can easily visit the town by car, bicycle or foot, if you need civilisation!). There is lots of space for children to play and some horses in the fields to watch. The farm has several cottages available to hire, which look lovely too. The shower block is warm and spacious. It is designed for one person to use at a time which is great for the user but sometimes inconvenient for anyone waiting. Overall, a lovely site, highly recommended. Thank you!
My wife and I stayed at this site along with my parents and their caravan. We had a thoroughly enjoyable time. The views are lovely, once on the field. There were about 6 or so horses in the fields opposite and was lovely to sit and watch/hear them during the day.
We didn't have any issues with farm vehicles as this is a WORKING farm site so it is to be expected as they are working on the fields. The noises didn't disrupt us and in fact we enjoyed the different noises that you get on the farm - which are much better than traffic on roads which you get on other sites.
The toilet/shower block was clean but could do with being modernised but it was usable and we had no problems with it.
The owners and all of the workers on the farm were very friendly and very nice. They left us to our own devises and didn't bug us by talking to us all the time but they were around if we had any issues or questions.
The entrance is currently undergoing renovation so is a little bit harder to negotiate but we didn't have any major issues with it as it was possible to get our car and caravan through the gaps and also we understood that this is a working farm and stables. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would definitely go back again.
Just returned from visiting this CL. Will never return, and will advise friends not to visit. Site is not big enough for 5 vans, as the two on the front of the field totally obscure the views for the other users. Entrance to CL is badly in need of attention, as is yhe yard through which you enter the site. The toilet/shower is well away from the CL, as is the CDP, which, during heavy rainfall, is partially submerged.
We only saw the owner twice, once when paying, and once when asking to have the overflowin g rubbish bins emptied.
The whole site is badly in need of some TLC. The hedges/borders need cutting, and the EHU points, which are hidden in the undergrowth need attention, as their supports are collapsing. We also object to being woken at 6.20 every morning by traffic moving in the field behind the CL. Glad this CL is not typical of all Club CLs.
The site is barely adequate for 5 vans especially as the owner allows 2 cars per van.
There are big ruts in the entrance . We asked for them to be filled in but nothing was done. The entrance to the site is cluttered and untidy.
The rubbish was not taken for nearly 2 weeks when we then had to ask for it to be removed.
The site owner made no visible visit to the site despite some torrential rain.
The charge for awnings especially porch awnings is excessive at £3.
The track to the toilet emptying point is hazardous and difficult for taking a cassette.
The electric points need new posts in a a more prominent position.
We were woken up every morning about 6. 15 by a vehicle in very close proximity to the hedge
