Nice location but beware entrance!!

Have just returned after 5 nights. Totally agree with other comments- nice location but in need of some TLC. The road noise didn't bother us as we were on a pitch a little further away from the road. The Camel Trail is accessible for walking via a path through the woods from the rear of the CL which is very pleasant alongside the river. If using bikes you will have to go uphill on the road to the Bourough Arms. Worse bit...the access. If coming from Bodmin direction the entrance is a VERY sharp left hand turn after a bridge. We had to reverse back out onto the busy main road in order to make the turn. There is a nasty hump on the entrance and out twin axle nearly "bottomed out". They have clearly done some work to improve the entrance but still tricky for longer single axle, twin axles or motor homes. If coming from Wadebridge direction it would be much easier to access the site. A potentially fabulous site spoils by access.

Could be so much better

We stayed for 13 nights and cycled the Camel Trail, although access is close by you do need to cross the busy A389 to get on the trail so perhaps not ideal if cycling with young children. The road noise is ever present so avoid this site if this is something which would bother you. The site is in need of some general maintenance and is looking a bit unloved at the moment. The setting is lovely and we were really pleased that areas had been left for wildlife and assumed that the owners were keen on conservation. However, upon returning from our cycle ride one day the whole site smelt very strongly of chlorine. We were told that neat bleach had been sprayed to kill weeds, we objected to the smell and the potential for the bleach to be harmful to our dogs and were told that the rain would wash it away! Yes, straight into the watercourse and nearby river Camel! So much for conservation! The bleach was not even effective, instead of an untidy driveway covered with weeds they now have an untidy driveway covered with dead weeds! We are unlikely to return but hope that the site gets the TLC it deserves to bring it back to its full potential.

Cycling CL!

Location: adj to busy/noisy road on Wadebridge /Bodmin road Site: basic CL with WC; HS/EHU; OAY; could do with a bit of TLC Off site: Camel Trail only 200m - great cycle route; 'Borough Arms' pub also, well worth a visit. Not sure we would rush back, but that due mainly to the road noise nearby.

PEACEFUL SITE

A lovely positioned and well kept site. Adjacent to River Camel, easy access to Camel Trial for dog walkers. Pub near by, easy walking distance. Met our simple needs completely. Will be back for sure.

NOT A FISHERY

The CL is nice although a little noisy from the road.We came here to use the fishery and the Camel Trail. The Camel Trail is great but the fishery is abandoned and has not been used for 10 years we are told. The Club should review the CL name and the information in its handbook which are both misleading. We have been here for a week and no sign of the site owners yet!!!!!!! We had no trouble getting in (Xtrail and 21ft caravan) but there is definitely a big hump where the drive meets the road. Hopefully we will get out unscathed. Worth a visit with the above in mind

Comment from The Caravan Club

Many thanks for leaving a review. The CL owner works hard to ensure people enjoy their stay on their site and values feedback from members. As such they have been carrying out some remedial work on the site and the hump at the top of the drive has been removed and is no longer an issue for anyone entering or leaving the site. The Caravan Club has added information into the site entry on the website to advise this is no longer a fishery.

Lovely site - pay careful attention to directions!

A really nice, level site with hard standings and fantastic scenery.  Touch of road noise but nothing that will stop you sleeping, even with the windows open.  Nice and secure, with electric gates and access code, and facilities were all in good order. As the directions in the handbook say, make sure you turn sharply left to enter the site.  We went slightly left, missing the site entrance and going up the hill in front, which is a dead end.  Entirely our mistake, but took us ages to reverse all the way down again! We'd love to visit this site again for a longer stay.

Family holiday

We thought the site was lovely and well kept, the road was very busy but not too loud. We were worried about the entrance from what we have read from previous reviews but we didn't have any problems with it. The children had a lovely time there. Will return to this site again. 31/05/2013

Entrance issues

I have to agree with the other comment on the access issues to this site in due to the position relative to the main road and the big hump of tarmac at top of the driveway. Road noise is also quite intrusive as the site is at the bottom of a steep hill on the busy Bodmin to Wadebridge main road. Other than that it's a nice site, in close proximity to the start of the Camel Trail at Bodmin. Incidentally Freeview TV reception is non-existent due to the location at the valley bottom.
