Could be so much better

We stayed for 13 nights and cycled the Camel Trail, although access is close by you do need to cross the busy A389 to get on the trail so perhaps not ideal if cycling with young children. The road noise is ever present so avoid this site if this is something which would bother you. The site is in need of some general maintenance and is looking a bit unloved at the moment. The setting is lovely and we were really pleased that areas had been left for wildlife and assumed that the owners were keen on conservation. However, upon returning from our cycle ride one day the whole site smelt very strongly of chlorine. We were told that neat bleach had been sprayed to kill weeds, we objected to the smell and the potential for the bleach to be harmful to our dogs and were told that the rain would wash it away! Yes, straight into the watercourse and nearby river Camel! So much for conservation! The bleach was not even effective, instead of an untidy driveway covered with weeds they now have an untidy driveway covered with dead weeds! We are unlikely to return but hope that the site gets the TLC it deserves to bring it back to its full potential.
