Pros: Extremely well maintained CL on working farm Cons: nearby railway may disturb some visitors

We are regular users of this wonderful CL as we travel up and down the M6 on our way to and from Scotland. Site is accessed from a minor road. The minor road has one narrow steep section between the village of Wreay and under the railway. The CL field is a couple of hundred yards from the minor road. The access from the road is easy as the owner has considerably widened all gate ways. This is a working farm. The owner, Margaret, is very organised. As well as running the farm she is a lorry driver, hair dresser, does various alternative therapies etc. She lives on the farm with her parents and children and must have eyes in the back of her head because no matter what time we arrive she has always appears on the CL by the time we’ve driven along the farm drive. Margaret maintains everything to a very high standard. The field is level and grass is cut to almost bowling green standards. The toilet and shower facilities are extremely clean and maintained to a high standard - much higher than you normally encounter on CLs. The five pitches back onto a gravel track which separates the CL from the farmhouse. There is a small gravel yard, large enough for a couple of vans. We have used it once when there had been weeks of rain and the grass was soft. A key “feature” of this CL is the West Coast Mainline railway which runs on a high embankment immediately behind the farmhouse which is due west of the field. This is a busy railway being the main line between Scotland and the south. For our train spotter boys this is the main attraction of the site. All sorts of trains use the line including steam so there always unusual sightings. If you don’t want to be disturbed by the noise of trains then this CL is not for you.

Great place to stay

We stayed here for 2 nights and enjoyed it very much. The family were all very friendly and helpful and made us feel most welcome. There was both hard standing and a grassy area to park on and the toilet and shower facilities in the beauty salon area were excellent. Access from the M6 was very close.

the best welcome ever

we visited this site as stop number 11 on a round scotland holiday. This was a great welcome, the owners couldn't do enough for us, and because they were so friendly and chatty the whole 5 vans were chatty, we spent the Saturday at Skelton Agricultural show and had a great time. would recomend this site highly

Great CL in a lovely location

We have stayed here several times and always been made most welcome. The train line is nearby and they run frequently during the day but not at night, they have never bothered us. The site is spacious and facilities are very good. It is a nice walk into the village which has an interesting, unusual church (well worth a visit) and a pub. Some good walks nearby.
