Peaceful and pleasant CL BUT Motorhomes beware!

We used this CL as an overnight stop when travelling to Cornwall. The pitches were well spaced and the outlook was lovely overlooking the fishing lakes, a very peaceful and pleasant site. However I feel I must mention a warning to motorhomers that the water taps are fitted with hoses that cannot be removed which made it impossible to connect our hose up and fill the tank with water. I mentioned this to the owner when he came to see us and he told me that no-one had ever complained before and all that was needed was a connecter to join 2 hoses together - we don't carry one with us!! Fortunately we had enough water on board for the one night that we were there. On looking back at other reviews I now see that someone previously (2019) has mentioned this - sadly I didn't read back that far! The problem could be so easily remedied by having just one normal tap for drinking water at the entrance. In summary, a lovely site perfect for caravans but not for motorhomes.

Keep this a secret!

A delightful location in a rural setting. Peaceful with good facilities on each pitch. We will be back!

Ideal stopover

Just stayed 1 night as a stopover from Cornwalll. Found the site easily and were told by phone which pitch to use. Access was good. Hardstanding. Each pitch had electric, water tap and grey water went into the hedge. For a £5 deposit you could have a key to toilet and shower facilities but as we stayed only 1 night we didn't take up the offer. There was another toilet to use which was used by people fishing in the lakes nearby but it was very clean. The owners son was working on site and gave us lots of local info and directions for walks from the site. There is access to the fishing lakes that were well kept and managed. Wi-Fi was available but wasn't working. It had just been installed and were having teething problems. Would stay again as a stopover.

Little gem.

Picked this site as a stopover on our way to Cornwall. Absolutely beautiful. Nice and quite and a great view of the lake. Will be back and next time will pack my fishing rods.

Nice Location

5 hardstanding pitches, each with own 16amp EHU and water point, overlooking one of the fishing lakes. WC, with washing up area (centrally heated) and separate shower (£1 coin operated) in nearby fisherman's lodge, exclusive use as fisherman have their own facilities Nice and quiet site, you can hear the owls at night. Easy access from M5 Few minuets drive into Cullompton where there is a large Tesco's, Aldi and Home Bargains plus some independents plus eateries There are footpaths from the site into nearby Kentisbeare which has a post office shop and pub. Unfortunately we visited after all the recent rain and the footpaths were extremely wet and muddy but will plan to return in the drier weather as this site would be ideal for walking etc. Would recommend as somewhere to stay to visit the surrounding area as Honiton, Exeter,Tiverton and Taunton are within 30 minutes drive. We visited Sidmouth from here and it was only a 40 minute drive.

Just what I needed...

I had a bad experience at another camp site and left a day early. Therefore we needed a place for the night at short notice and this seemed to fit the bill. The directions were slightly misleading in that you have to turn right at the crossroad, before the ford, when in Dead Lane. We arrived reasonably late but had already made suitable arrangements to park up and sort out payment in the morning. Each of the five pitches are level hard-standings with there own water supply. However we had to get creative filling up our water tank because the hose could not be detached to allow the supply hose for the motorhome to be attached. It was not a major problem when two pairs of hands are available. During the evening overnight fishermen arrived which was unexpected, especially when voices are heard in the middle of the countryside and you are the only site occupant. The morning got off to an early start to the sound of chainsaws and wood shredders operating only 15 metres away from the 'van'. The toilet and shower were clean. I could not find a grey water drain, unless the black water drain in the fishery was meant to be used, which for a motor-home was not possible. I felt that £15 was a little expensive for this site, particularly in October. I might stay here overnight in the future, but for a motor-home I feel a longer stay would not be feasible.

Not so quiet at weekends

Nice little site, well looked after and nice location. Fantastic food in Kentisbeare which is about 1 mile away and a lovely village to walk to and around. However we found that the site was not as quiet as we imagined, especially at the weekend. We ended up on the pitch nearest the car park for the lakes which meant a very early awakening both weekend mornings with fishermen arriving with little or no regard for someone perhaps trying to sleep nearby. Plenty of car doors slamming. Although a bit irritating the worst was that one of the lakes is accessed via a driveway running immediately past the pitches. This meant that over the weekend in particular cars were driving up and down feet from your hitch with absolutely no speed restrictions. I was just glad I did not have young children or a dog to worry about. The staff appeared to be the worst culprits for speed. At times outside the fishermen's rush hour it is a quiet site in a really lovely location. If you fish and tourit is then fantastic!

Good location, quiet but facilities basic

Quiet little site good for walking and fishing on your doorstep. However, the facilities are basic, and the grass between pitches is overgrown. At £15 a night this year, I felt it was over-priced. The shower is additional at around £1 depending on how long you require and the room was unheated. Although there are notices stating the toilet and shower are for the caravan park, the fishermen also used them.

Weekend break

On the edge of a fishery in a quiet secluded area. All hard standing with grass & chemical disposal is across in the fishery area. Ideal for a gentle stroll around the ponds. It was a bit wet when we were there so there was some surface run off from the cattle shed. It would be really great in summer, we were there in February. Nice tidy site.

A mixed stay

A very pleasant CL overlooking fishing lakes. Each pitch has a hard standing and water supply and the owners have divided each with grass and some recently planted trees. It is convenient for the M5 and amenities in Cullompton. Nice facilities with well kept and clean WC and shower. However the water run off from the adjacent cattleshed ran in to the site (part around our van and parking) which no doubt contained some bovine detritus and not overly pleasant/healthy and meant our children could not play outside. We quite accept the CL is on a farm, but this was below standard. Also not great for children as access to the cattleshed for farm traffic was right in front of the van.
