Early autumn sunshine !

For final approach to this CL you can do no better than refer to the previous review, to count 4 x telegraph poles from the preceding crossroads - this pretty much takes you to the field entrance gate. There is signage at this point but you won’t see those signs til the last minute. Together with the narrow width of the single track lane and a tight turn in at this point this does make for an interesting experience to get into the site. If you do overshoot there is turning space further down the lane by the farmyard entrance. Once in the fairly level field you immediately see the row of electric posts on your left running along the hedge line at the back of a long but narrow strip of grass, which does determine pitch positioning. Though, if all 5 pitches were taken then care would be needed to maintain a proper width segregation around those electric positions as some boxes are shared. Pitch markers might help here ? On our visit the grass was quite long (6 inches maybe) though this is clearly subject to the regularity of the owner’s mowing pattern. Of greater concern to us was (in contradiction to what’s said on the website entry) the lack of any hard standing pitches - all are grass - and the only hard surface of any kind is within the actual entranceway. Difficult to judge about drainage affecting movement and pitching as we had good sunny & dry weather during our stay, so had no traction difficulties. Water & chemical point are clearly positioned close to the entrance gate, while rubbish disposal is at the very end, where there’s a gate through to the farmyard - the loo/toilet is located there. Also a letter box for posting pitch fees, which at the time of our visit had incremented to £22/nt (web entry when we booked was quoted at £20). This CL is in a very tranquil rural setting, with glorious uncluttered views from its hilltop position west to the opposite hill line, and horses grazing the field immediately below. Although it’s a hilltop position we weren’t unduly affected by wind strength on our visit. It’s a balance to make here about getting the uncluttered view but then being potentially exposed to wind & rain ? As mentioned in other reviews the A38 Devon Expressway runs along the valley floor, as does the main railway line. In terms of noise intrusion this translates to a distant hum most of the time; overnight it tails right off and wasn’t intrusive to us.

Peaceful CL with beautiful views

This Cl is a peaceful well maintained site with the most beautiful views over Dartmoor. The spotless facilities include a toilet and shower and the grass is kept lawned. Although peaceful, it is handy for the Torbay area and Dartmoor, and also several historic properties. Carol Northmore, the owner, was extremely helpful and I rate this as a five star site. I will be returning.

The Perfect CL

A lovely peaceful CL. Gorgeous views over rolling countryside. Handy for the A38, Avonwick and South Brent. Flat pitches with short grass and good quality shower and toilet. EHU and water included in the £15 per night pitch fee ( in June). Definitely recommend this CL

Fantastic views

The view from this site is one of the very best from any CL we've stayed at. Looking North towards Dartmoor the view is panoramic with high moorland hills above small fields and woodland and the village of South Brent nestled at the bottom. There is plenty of room for 5 units in a line with hook ups and a good quality and clean WC and shower. Access is fairly easy from the A38, there are a couple of narrow stretches of lane but quite a few passing places. It is an excellent base for exploring South Dartmoor and the South Hams district. It's about 40 minutes to the beautiful South Devon coast. And finally, it has the best chemical disposal point of any CL we've visited...OK not the sort of thing to massively effect your holiday, but it's something that stays in your mind at the end!. Downside...there is some distant road noise from the A38 but nowhere's perfect

Cracking CL but some Road noise

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at Higher Stidston Farm CL - What a cracking site: beautiful views, level pitches, (each with a lovely view and hook up). Access is straight forward, if a little tight at the gateway, (which can EASILY be missed, so be careful, it's not easy to turn around should you do so - it's located on the right by the fourth telegraph pole after the 'X' roads referred to in the owners directions). Shower room, toilet and hand-basin clean and very useable. My only 'gripe' - which the site owner's can't do anything about is the road noise from the Devon Expressway. We are just not used to road noise but others may not find it a problem. Overall a great site ans one to which we will return,,( With bear plugs for a good nights sleep).

Excellent site with great views

Just returned from 3 nights at Higher Stidston Farm. Excellent stay, really great facilities and a warm welcome from Carol. Unbelievable views and great area for cycling. Some road noise from nearby Devon Expressway but this didn't mar our stay. I would highly recommend and aim to return again soon.

Good location & views

Just spent a couple of nights at Higher Stidston Farm, lovely views and plenty to do locally, Good flat site, but a bit slippy in gate after heavy rain and straight on to grass off lane, no hard standing pitches although said there were. Directions slightly misleading as no sign for Diptford off roundabout, take next exit after A385 Totnes and you can then see described signs. Site in 0.6 miles on right. Electric hook ups are all on one post so bring a long lead if at a busy time of year. Didn't get to meet owners so just put money through the door, but mobile number available if required which is fine. All in all good site, would use again if in the area.

Peace and Tranquility

we have just spent a week at this site it a lovely site tucked out of the way the views are stunning and the owner carol is very welcoming it is close to Totnes and the local village South Brent is only 4 minutes away and has a very good fish and chip shop aswell as a coop supermarket Paignton is approx 12 miles away the site is clean and the grass is cut short their mower could do with a grass box as the cut grass gets everywhere ! apart from a windy night with our awning the weather was good access instructions should be followed by the owners instruction not the sat nav (some of the approach lanes are very narrow if following sat nav) we would definatley stay at this site again improvemets that could be made is each pitch could have its own water supply as there are only two one at each end of the site apart from that it is a gem of a site.

Beautiful views

We were exceptionally lucky to have this site to our selves. Beware - the gate is set back slightly and we overshot the site before we knew it. We had to turn around in a farm further along, but then found the turning into the site field so tight we had to unhitch the caravan in the road to get it on site! The views are stunning due to the elevated position of the site. There is some noise from the A38, but it wasn't intrusive and certainly didn't taint our stay. We never saw the owners for the 10 days we were there and I had to ring the owner on our last night to ask how to pay. No problem though - we never mind being 'left alone' and certainly enjoyed our stay. The site is situated close enough to the A38 to make it accessible to many places with ease. If we visited the area again, we would not hesitate to stay on the site again.

Enjoyable stay

Pleasant site overlooking Dartmoor. Had a good long weekend at the end of May on this site. As we only live an hour down the road it is easy to get to. I did over shoot the gate to the field as there is not any advance warning , and you are on it before you know. Turned around in next farm yard. Gateway way is tight but did not have any problems with a 24ft van. We did not meet the owner until the second day, very pleasant and helpful. There is some road noise from the A38, but the views more than made up for this.  Would we use this site again ? Yes. Excellent place to eat is the Turtley Corn Mill, just down the lane, good food, reasonable prices.
