An excelent site

I believe that 'Topvan's report was very unfair. We have visited this site on many occasions and have always had a good holiday. We have just spent another week there - June 2016 and nothing has changed

Very stressful experience

We booked to stay for a few nights at this site in March after reading the latest reviews. Unfortunately our experience was not pleasant, in fact it was very stressful. We arrived at the site to find a note on the gate telling us that the ground was wet - nothing else. Taking this into account and seeing that there were two motorhomes already on the site on hardstanding we made our way up the path. Be very careful if you are driving up on this site, as the path is very narrow - either remove or fold your mirrors. We got to the top of the lane to find that all the site that been roped off and we were stuck on the path. The owner appeared and told us that we shouldn't have driven onto the site "didn't you get the note that I left for you on the gate?". Seems we were meant to understand the note meant - don't come up any further as the ground is wet! It turned out that she had decided that the ground was too wet to take caravans and so couldn't allow us to stay at her site, or use any part of the site to turn our caravan round on. We therefore had to unhitch our caravan, and push it back down the path, park it across a neighbouring farmers field, reverse the car down, hitch up in the middle of a very narrow lane and find somewhere else where to stay. In total - a very stressful experience, very unhelpful, unpleasant site owner, would definitely not recommend this site in any way. We did however get our deposit back - only positive experience of this site.

Very nearly the perfect CL

Lovely stay over new year, weather was wet and windy but to be expected. Nice and secluded well off the road with gated entrance. Perfect peace and quiet. I would disregard a certain previous review, words fail me - just remember a CL is not a commercial site. I for one applaud all CL owners who allow 5 vans onto their land!

A very good site

We visit this site most years because it is so nice. Mrs Garton works so cannot always be there to greet you but pitches are labelled with you name so you can set up with confidence. Showers, with ample hot water, cost 50p and their are 2 toilets. We would commend this site to anyone wishing to be in the Sidmouth area

Lovely Level Site

Can't believe some of the previous reviews. This site is situated in a beautiful part of Devon with Branscombe, Sidmouth, Beer and Lyme Regis all minutes away. Yes the final approach is .7 of a mile down a narrow lane and yes there is a gate that needs to be opened and closed but the peace and tranquillity make it all worth it. The owner keeps herself to herself and is not overpowering which we like. The facilities are a little basic but serviceable. If you are looking for a super place to holiday in an unspoilt location look no further. If it's 16 amp electricity you're after perhaps try an all singing all dancing club site at 3 times the price.

VERY DISAPPOINTING

On approaching Little Bulstone on a very narrow, twisty road we were confronted with a security gate (there were two caravans in our party). We had to leave the caravan in the middle of the road whilst someone opened and closed the gate. We have to say that the field where the caravans were parked was very well maintained. After 10hrs driving we arrived tired and hungry with no-one to greet us. The first negative was the electricity tripped 6-8 times during the evening. We were assured that this was unusual although speaking to other campers they also had the same problem. We were actually awakened at 3am with a flashing fridge indicating that the electricity had tripped once again so we reverted to gas for the duration although electricity was included in the price. We later found out that it was a 10-amp electricity supply not the usual 16-amp. Their dog was allowed to run around the site without a lead and the other campers as well as ourselves were not impressed that it was allowed to do its business near our vans and cars. If you needed the toilets at night make sure to take a torch because it is very dark in that area. There was a charge of 20p for a bowl of hot water in the toilet and the meter was broken. The shower door was broken although there was a charge for this facility, the toilets were not overly clean and the same hand towel was in the toilets for most of our week’s stay. The next negative was we were suddenly without water and when we enquired at the house we were told that the horse had knocked its automatic water system off the wall flooding out the stable. Although this was fairly quickly dealt with no-one came to tell us the situation. The morning that we departed whilst we were packing up Mrs Garton came across and removed our name from our site and replaced with the next occupants name. We had no contact with the owner unless we went to the house to see her and there was no personal contact. The site seemed to be an inconvenience to her. Unfortunately we will not stay at this site again.

Disappointing

We were rather disappointed by this site. Although the site was ok, you took your life in your hands negotiating the roads on foot as there were no footpaths in the vicinity. The site was expensive at £15pn especially as laundry, shower and hot water were all chargable. No greeting upon arrival - fine but better signage as to the location of facilities would be good or a welcome pack? Branscombe beach is a good 30 min walk away while the excellent Fountain Head pub is a 20 min walk. Site is not a usable 2 acres as most is roped off paddock. Poor value for money.
