Camping by vintage railway line

We stayed at this site over a Bank Holiday weekend. The site itself was nice enough, a long narrow field, but plenty of space for each caravan, and room for kids/dogs to run around. At the end of the field, you were able to watch the vintage trains go by (roughly on the hour until about 6pm) which is ideal to keep train spotters and children amused. There's a garage at entrance to site, and a car dealership to rear. We didn't find it a problem, as it was to the rear of us, when we pitched and all the caravans face the view of the countryside away from the dealership. For families with small children, probably not the most ideal site, as the site did not have a gate to stop small children from wandering off the site onto a busy road, nor was there fencing to stop them wandering onto the embankment of the vintage railway line. There was also some machinery that you need to warn children away from. However for adults on the ball as to the whereabouts of the children, this doesn't pose a problem. The shower/toilet is based in a cargo container. It was actually in quite nice condition inside, very clean and well maintained. The shower was free to use, and produced a good flow of water. Only problem was if anyone wanted to use the toilet whilst another camper was having a shower, you had to wait with crossed legs, as the shower and toilet are in the same room. If owners are reading the review - we would recommend getting a separate toilet put in to solve the crossed legs crisis as tricky with small children to hold fire! Only other thing that would have been helpful would have been some lighting around the outside of the washing facilitates as had to take it carefully at night in the dark, due to having to step up onto concrete slabs to access the facilities. LocalPlacesOfInterest-wise the site was ideally placed to access a number of local amenities, and attractions. We went on the Wensleydale Railway (longest preservation vintage railway line), visited Fountain Abbey (National Trust property) and local towns. We didn't really see the owners, as they work in the day, but found them pleasant enough when we did encounter them. As we plan to return to the area in the future to explore more of it, we will certainly consider a return stay to to this site.
