A very peaceful stay

We have just had 2 nights at Mid Float Farm. We weren’t too sure what to expect with the mixed reviews, but had a great stay. We had the site to ourselves so thoroughly enjoyed the peace and quiet with lovely views. The beach was further away than expected, closer to a mile walk, but a lovely quiet beach which was great for a swim. The toilet and shower are interesting, far from luxurious, but functional and clean. We were given a warm welcome and had everything we needed.

I love Mid Float Farm

We went to Mid float farm in 2019 and I fell in love with the peace and tranquility, the shower/toilet ( you could do both at once) was hilarious but for £8 a night an absolute bargain . The views are breathtaking and the welcome from the owner great . I think it's a little gem and would go back anytime 😊

Just like a CL should be / used to be

Having recently rejoined the club basically to access the CL sites again after many years touring Europe this was our first one for many years. I read some of the negative reviews but read through the lines and decided it might just be a tucked away little farm CL with no frills but just right for us and it was. If you want manicured lawns and showers etc go on a club site. I am somewhat disappointed to see the range of CL's now on offer are now almost the price of a proper campsite and offer showers, toilets etc and other mod cons. All I need in the motorhome is a tap (very easy access here and good pressure) and somewhere to empty the loo (also good access). Thats it. EHU is a bonus and for a tenner a night including Ehu its an absolute bargain. Ian said he plans some improvements but for me it was fine as it is. Great views towards the sea and peace and quiet. I would say though unless you are fit cyclists or walkers you need secondary transport here (we have a scooter) if you want to get down to the Mull or some of the coastal villages. Access is fine. Some single track roads but we never saw another vehicle.

Rolling green hills views.

We stayed here in May 2021, great fun getting to the site...follow the map attached. With previous reviews we wondered what we were coming to. A very warm welcome, a tight site adjacent to the farm, yes it took a three point turn to get in the wide gate with a 7m van. A lovely green grass site set in the country side overlooking the coast. Great for exploring the Mull of Galloway. Ignore the wc and elderly farm buildings. For £10 a night you get peace and quiet with electric hook up.

Room for much improvement!

Arrived at site having been escorted to site from the village. The site was untidy and grass had been strimmed and left lying on site. Toilet was basic but not usable by us. The bin was overflowing and had to ask for another. The shed where bin housed was filthy and yard leading to it unsightly. Unused mobile homes there and generally unacceptable. Cannot understand how the Caravan Club allows a site like this to be used. Never again.

Peace and Quiet

We stayed on site in July 2016, paid £8.00 for one night and received water, electric and rubbish disposal.  Shower and toilet facilities basic but adequate.  Warm welcome on arrival and helpful in pointing out places of interest.  Given rural location no wifi, narrow roads on approach, and you need to use care when entering and leaving site field but more than enough room.  I feel previous comments are unfair.  What you do get is silence and a real back to basics relaxing break away.  Would have no hesitation in returning to this site.

Good value

I feel the previous reviews are quite unfair considering the price of the CL. At £8 what do they expect? The fact it has any facilities over and above the basic compulsory 3 (water, sewage and rubbish disposal) is a bonus. We thought the toilet/shower, which was kept clean, had character and we used it daily. The water was quite hot enough. The one thing I would warn caravanners about is the sharp U turn from the driveway into the field which would be very awkward for a large caravan. Being a small motorhome we were OK but we still had to do a 3 point turn to get in. The field is uneven and may need blocks, but the welcome we got was very warm and helpful. We visited in August 2015.

Wouldn't go here again

We visited in May. There was no one on site to welcome us, we couldn't find any local information to tell us how to get to the beach though we could see the sea in the distance. Toilet and shower were still in use at the time of our visit, though only the wc was actually usable and there was no hot water.  The games room was also still available when we visited, though it was unusable.  The children's play things were ancient and kept in a barn with a roll of barbed wire in the entrance.  It didn't feel like a safe environment for children.  Worst site I've been to. I think Caravan Club should reconsider their inclusion in their book.

Could be fantastic

Actually stayed here last Easter but only able to post CL reviews now we have been members for a while so apologies if facilities have improved since then. Brilliant location in remote and fairly isolated area. The most appealing feature of this site was the surrounding countryside and walks to nearby Mid float Bay. Slightly scary navigating some of the small winding roads leading to site but got there unscathed. Access onto the smallish, uneven, enclosed field would not have been possible without our 4x4 and one couple, who arrived the day before, had to pitch up in the rather unattractive area in between the cowsheds and barns. The most disappointing aspects of the site were the shower/toilet facilities which were a joke really. A kiosk type arrangement consisting of a toilet with shower overhead so using the shower would have soaked whole kiosk. Full of cobwebs and dust but the toilet itself was clean and usable....do not however come here if you will rely on using the shower! Also the advertised Games area was an old barn full of discarded junk. A pervasive smell of damp and neglect filled the place and it wasn't really usable....I found a Worzel Gummage annual from the early 80's amongst the old tattered book collection and I think that was probably the last time the area was used! Basically the site desperately needs a bit of a tidy-up and if this was done it could be a fantastic place to stay. I feel that the caravan club should actually check out facilities of sites before allowing them to be advertised as we specifically chose this site rather than another couple nearby (which both were far superior) because of the Games room: which didn't really exist!

Terry & Jo's review

Nice quiet & secluded site. Field a bit uneven, so some levelling required. Follow instructions to site & not sat nav as local roads are very narrow in places. Care is required when getting close to the site as the entrance is on the right hand side on the brow of a hill. If you miss it you could go several miles before being able to turn around
