Very comfortable and friendly site

Enjoyable views, fantastic history of the town, which is within walking distance. Too much to do as we only stayed one night - it certainly warrants a second visit. Very tidy campsite and the town has everything from take-aways to tattoo artists. Reasonably priced with good facilities.

Great views and plenty of space.

We have just stayed here for the one night, the site was easy to find and road noise was not a problem. The entrance road is interesting as it works it’s way through the farm, but it’s worth it. There is plenty of space between pitches and the view from all is fantastic. What we liked was the very clean basic approach of the CL, it’s not the manicured layout you get else where, but it feels special. This coupled with a very friendly welcome with lots of local knowledge, means I’m sure we will be back for a longer stay.

Pleasant quiet site

Sanquar seemed very run down when we visited, and the approach to the site might be a litte off-puttting but the field itself was well mown, pretty level, and with pleasant views across the Nith valley, and quiet apart from ocassional traffic noise. Facilities are basic but adequate.

Great spot

Lovely site, friendly and helpful owner, close to all the amenities of Sanquhar and local bus routes, highest village of Wanlockhead definitely worth a visit, great location for cycling and cyclists, although all routes have a go along the busy road for a little while unfortunately. Perfect CL site.

Stop off - or longer!

Stayed for 4 nights on the way to the North West Coast post Covid June 2021 . Very easy to find; and nice to escape the boring slog of the Motorway, and see the beautiful Ayrshire countryside. Choose your own pitch on arrival: some with better (fantastic) views than others, but all very pleasant and level. Good services, well thought out. Owner very helpful, but not intrusive. Lovely dog walking directly from the site, both long and short, down to a lovely river or along to Sanquhar, without having to use the car; or for a quick necessity walk with rabbit chasing thrown in. The only downside for me was a slight noise from the road, although not a big problem. Would certainly go again, as it's a very pretty area and recommend others venture off and find peace for a few nights. But leave us a space for next time please?

Perfect stopover

I made a last minute call to the site and struck lucky with a newly available space for one night over the BH weekend. It’s a lovely small site tucked behind the farm house and barns which gives a lot of shelter from the weather and reduces the road noise. There are lovely views from all the pitches and a nice walk into the village. I would stay again.

Ideally situated for overnight stops or longer breaks if you enjoy walking.

Easy access from the A76 – there is a CAMHC club sign as you arrive at the first warning to reduce speed to 30 mph for Sanquhar. Another is at the CL entrance immediately after you pass the 30 mph warning sign – look out for the white bungalow / entrance to site which is on the left side of the road. The CL is located at the end of the farm track. Closely mown, slightly sloping field with views. 10 amp electric and free WiFi (Variable signal). It was a bonus to see rabbits running around the field. There are 5 clearly marked electric hook up points all offering generous sized pitches. Weather permitting (!) there are lovely views of the countryside from all the pitches. Mrs Barbour can arrange milk and bread deliveries if required. She also had a number of information leaflets available – return these at the end of your stay. There are a number of walks in the area – can recommend the walk along the river towards Sanquhar. Sanquhar itself has a number of small shops including 2 supermarkets and a garage at the far end of the high street.

Fabulous site

We only stayed here 2 nights on our way home. What a shame as it was fabulous. We never saw Frances as she was away but sounded lovely on the phone. We just gave our fees to another Caravanner who was staying longer . The views are fantastic and the site is a 5 minute walk from Sanquhar. We had a lovely walk into the village. There is also a lovely river walk from the site. The site is very peaceful and plenty space for each caravan. The amenities are very good and clean. Would definitely recommend this site.

AMAZING

We arrived at this site without booking on 28th July. We were made most welcome . The site is spotless and the views excellent. The hostess was very very helpful and gave us a lot of information about the local area. She even offered to get some shopping for us, but as there is a well stocked SPAR just a short walk away we declined. I would definately reccommend this CL and have to say it is probably the best CL we have ever visited.

Home in the hills

Once again I’m at my home in the hills,as always,a friendly welcome is given by James and Frances the owners, the site is easily accessible from the A76 but tucked behind the farm which restricts any road noise, it is a working farm but the owners take every precaution to alert you should any tractor or animal movements be taking place near to the site. The site is kept neat and tidy, Frances is very informative and passionate about her locality, she also offers to deliver bread, rolls, milk and newspapers every morning on request,I have been using this site for a few years now and have no hesitation in recommending it for a stay. Already looking forward to my next visit.Thankyou and god bless you both.
