Ease of arrival/welcome

Disappointed to be located on second field

I had read reviews describing this site as hardstanding round a well kept grass area. We were therefore not pleased to arrive and on entering the CL were told by another caravanner that we were 'on the top'. The second field above was well below the first in quality - all grass, sloping both ways, and on soft ground. Cars and motorhomes left muddy gouges following recent wet weather, and the site owners had to repair these with turf and then gravel over the damaged areas. On meeting the owner the day after arriving, I expressed my disappointment, but was told we were booked on the top field. This was not mentioned when I booked and i was unaware there was another field. Generally the site needs upgrading. There was a lack of information and signs - I only discovered that the toilet emptying point was away from both fields behind the owner's house by reading a review on another website, recycling and hand sanitising could be improved, communication was not ideal with no answerphone on landline, no mobile phone or email address, and payment by bank transfer was not offered. Photos of the site do not appear on the CAMC website, and the description is minimal. On the positive side, the CL is in a very good location, with an informal footpath, not shown on maps, directly to the coast path with access to Filey. Though near the sea the site is not too windy as the land slopes up towards the sea. We saw much interesting wildlife on the adjacent fields, some of which is National Trust owned.
