Visit to pencraig

Stayed at pencraig, when we asked for directions there was no mention of the quarter mile one track, no passing places, road to the site. Lovely views and very quiet, the toilet was alright, but, the shower was not . The temperature could only be accessed from outside, the first 2 nights it was too hot to use . After the shower , we had to get dried back at the caravan as the cubicle in the shed was too small .when we arrived we were made to feel uncomfortable by the owner, I was talking to him after a minute or so he interrupted and said just listen to what I’m saying.

Peace, quite and wonderful scenery

If you love peace, tranquility and amazing scenery this very well maintained CL is the place. Short grass (with no clippings), planters with colourful flowers at the entrance and near the facilities which include a loo and a shower (both spotlessly clean), information hut, Elsan disposal, waste and recycling. All pitches are south facing and spacious with fabulous views. Even the ‘variable’ (rainy) weather didn’t detract from our enjoyment of the views or the site. Owners Rupert and Karen live next door and are very attentive without being intrusive. The village is 2.5 miles away and has 3 pubs (we didn’t try them), a chippy and a small Spar shop. There is a larger Londis at the petrol station on the main road. Welshpool about 10 miles. The directions in the CAMC handbook should be followed although our satnav took us straight there. I would recommend having a look at the location on Google maps as the 500m of road leading to the site is narrow. Don’t be put off by this as there are only very occasional vehicles. We had a lovely 5 night stay and would highly recommend.

Wonderful site

Rupert and Karen were very welcoming and friendly. They run a beautiful and well kept site with 5 well marked places with incredible views over the Welsh hills. It is so peaceful and quiet. The toilet with sink was separate from the shower (both in different sheds) which is thoughtful and both were clean and tidy. Close by is Powis Castle which is well worth a visit with the most lovely gardens. This is a campsite we would definitely return to if in the area! You can tell that Rupert and Karen have done campervanning themselves as they have put a lot of thought into the site and they maintain it beautifully.

What an absolute gem!

After a 6 hour drive we were looking forward to some rest, peace, tranquility, wonderful views and site owners that would be helpful, friendly knowledgeable of the local area and attractions. Too much to hope for? Absolutely not, we got all of the above. What an absolute gem of a cl overlooking gorgeous valleys and hills. The grass was well mown and no grass cuttings, the facilities were spotless and Rupert and Karen couldn’t have been more welcoming. We were given fresh eggs from their own hens and figs from their own trees. We spent a week here, sometimes doing nothing but admiring the views in the sunshine, sometimes visiting the beautiful forests , lakes and even the coast. We definitely hope to come back!

Brilliant quiet site

Just spent a week at this lovely quiet site, (9th - 16th August). The welcome you receive from Rupert and Karen, is very warm indeed. The site is kept immaculate, and the separate toilet and shower are spotless. The grass is mown on a regular basis, with all the grass collected at the same time, in a collection box, attached to the mower. We were given new laid eggs, as an added bonus, which were lovely. Nothing was too much trouble for the owners, and we have already booked a return visit for next year. Keep up the good work, and thank you for a lovely week, spent on your site. Kindest regards, Jeff, Chris and Dixie, (woof).

Perfect!

We’ve just returned from 4 nights at beautiful Pencraig, with a very warm welcome from the lovely owners Karen and Rupert, spotless facilities, all the little details have been thought of, helpful information room, very dog friendly site (dog walk fields on site) and stunning views in quiet Welsh hill farming country, it was perfect, the best CL we’ve stayed at yet! It was easy to find Pencraig from the directions, and google earth street view takes you all the way to the farm entrance and the Pencraig sign. The electric gate access was easy and makes the site feel secure. Once on the site we drove straight on to a pitch with no need for reversing, or on leaving, and it was pretty level by the pitches with no need for blocks. Welshpool and Dolgellau were good towns for stocking up with supplies, but there are also two mini supermarkets in the village nearby. From the site to the B road towards Lake Vernwy we found lots of beautiful forest and river walks plus there are plenty from Lake Vernwy itself, in all directions, so our dog was really happy to have lots of off the lead walks. We even had a run on the beach at Barmouth, only an hour away. We can’t recommend this beautiful, quiet site enough, we hope to return again next year for longer, and we would like to thank Karen and Rupert for making us so welcome.

Absolutely lovely site! A real CL 'must'!

We had a lovely seven-day stay at Pencraig, the location is stunning, overlooking a valley to which photographs cannot do real justice, and with lovely new hosts Rupert and Karen who made our stay very special. Of the more-than-twenty-odd sites, both in France and here in beautiful Powys in Wales, it was the site we have said we most look forward to returning to.

What a stunning CL!

Had a brilliant 2 days stay here. Absolutely gorgeous views - we didn't move much as sat outside looking over the valley. An immaculate site with short cut and collected grass with spotlessly clean toilet, well organised facilities and a superb information shed. Lovely friendly hosts who couldn't do enough to help or to make your stay enjoyable. To top it all it had a lovely dog walk straight from the site into the owners fields. This has been one our favourite CLs ever and we hope to return whenever our path leads back to Wales!
