unhappy

When we arrived on site after booking 4 months ago she didnt have me in the book lucky for us there was a pitch left bad management straight away. The site is advertised as hard standing but its very overgrown with grass so just muddy pitches were hard to see where the hardstanding ever was. Elson what a load of rubbish no tap hose to swill just a tap that is near but not next to point. We wont be back!!!!

Great Base for Walking

We stayed here for 6 nights in April and found this well kept CL to be a great base for walking the Sandstone Trail, one day north to Frodsham and another day south to Tarporley.

The site is easily accessed from the M56 and there's a good restaurant / pub about 15 minutes walk away.

As mentioned in the previous review, water and drainage are available on each pitch.

We got reasonable TV reception from the Moel y Parc transmitter which was roughly east and a good phone signal on EE.

The only slight downside was that with the site being set on a hill, most of the pitches would need an awning to be pitched uphill, though maybe not a big problem.

The eggs available from the farmhouse were excellent!

Easy walking access to Sandstone Trail and Delamere Forest. Now has fully serviced pitches

Each pitch now has its own fresh water tap and outlet for waste water. The hardstandings have a layer of moss/grass grown over them. We stayed in March during what must have been the wettest weekend of the winter and can confirm the pitch we used (second from top) was plenty large enough and firm enough despite it looking otherwise. The only problem with the wet weather is the pitch wasn’t as clean as gravel. In drier weather I guess it is nice having the layer of grass/moss, but I also guess the layer would die off revealing more of the stones. The owners said they put weed killer on the hard stands last year and are planning to mark them out so it is clear how wide the hardstands extend. Separate electric hook-ups have recently been installed for the two lowest pitches so all now have hook-up. The owners permitted us to walk along the farm access road behind the house which goes to a minor road (New Pale Road) to the north of the farm. This is also the Sandstone Trail at this point. Where this track meets the road you have a choice: 1. Follow the Sandstone Trail north across fields, 2. Follow the Sandstone Trail east: a quarter mile road section along New Pale Road then it turns off onto a path adjacent to a field which after quarter of a mile goes straight into Delamere Forest. Total distance by foot from centre of the CL to Delamere Forest is three quarters of a mile. 3. Visit the cottage at this junction which services snacks for Sandstone Trail walkers.

A Pleasant Winter Break

First things first. The directions given on the CC website and the one in the sites directory are based on approaching the CL from the east or at least coming from the M56 turnoff at Frodsham. We approached from the west. If doing so then take the A51 from Chester and follow the signs to Tarvin. Just after the Fishery turn left onto the B5393 signposted Manley and Mouldsworth. Continue on this road for about 3 miles and go through Mouldsworth. Just after the sign for Manley there is a sharp left hand hand bend, signposted Frodsham, Look out for this and take the sharp right hand turn into Dark Ark Lane, signed "Delamere 1 mile". The CL is about 50 yards down this road on the left. Tight turn into the CL as there are 2 concrete posts to avoid. Stopped in this CL in February 2017. The only one on site so we were able to choose the best pitch. There are 4 pitches which have a hardstanding base of gravel and a grass pitch (at the bottom of the site). The site slopes but pitches have been levelled as much as possible. However if you want to erect an awning this will be difficult due to the slope of the land. If staying on the grass pitch you will need 2 electric cables. The pitches are set up to be serviced ones as there is a water tap and waste water emptying point on each pitch. There is a very clean and fully functional toilet for CL users. It is very quiet even though there is a railway line nearby and the odd plane can be heard approaching Liverpool airport. This is a working farm so expect farm noise and a bit of muck in the farmyards but nothing untoward. The owner, Mrs.Challoner, is very friendly and will lend you local maps if you need them. Delamere is less than the mile away and there is a pub in Mouldsworth, The Goshawk, less than half a mile from the CL. All in all, exactly what we expected. Please note that the price for 2017 is £14.00 per night.

Good CL

We have just enjoyed 5 nights at this CL with our 2 year old granddaughter. The site is well maintained with the grass kept short. It has a good flow of mains water and the toilet emptying point is adequate, an added bonus is the CL does have a toilet for those who wish to use it, with hot and cold water. It is a sloping site but the pitches themselves are level, they are spacious and well separated and are far enough away from the road to make for a peaceful relaxing site. The Sandstone Trail is nearby and the CL is perfectly located to explore the Delamere forest. We could not fault anything on this CL, we found the owners very friendly and helpful and we would certainly like to return to use this site again.

Pleasant rural location near forest

I chose this location to visit both Chester and Anderton, for which it proved very convenient, as well as having Delamere Forest ten minutes walk away. This part of Cheshire is flat and industrial in part, but this site is well situated in the rural hills south of Frodsham. The owners were friendly, and like others we appreciated the levelled pitches. Facilities were adequate, though the toilet area could be freshened up.

A little gem!

Stayed here for the weekend to see family locally. A lovely tranquil site-despite the wedding party in a marquee along the road. Huge pitches, lovely views what more could you need? Easy access to great walks in Delamere forest which the dogs loved. We will be back!

Lovely CL

This site is in a quiet spot in the heart of Cheshire and if it's peace and tranquillity that you are after you've gone to the right place. Owners are extremely friendly as were the other caravanners. All of the pitches have been levelled off with part hard standing.

Cycle friendly location

Easy nearby access to Delamere Forest for cycling and walking. Convenient for local cycle routes and paths over to Chester, Connahs Quay and The Wirral. Good selection of pubs in the nearby villages offering range of ales and food.  CL owners very friendly; provided good information about local area and facilities. Pitches are levelled out on this sloping CL with plenty of room in between. When entering site recommend bear right up driveway and go around back of farmhouse for best access to pitches. Look forward to visiting here again.
