our weekend away

i found the site quiet and peaceful, the surroundings were lovely, good walks for the dog down at heighbridge basin, not far at all from shops, showers adequate to fit the needs of any caravaner, definitely go back again, the owners left you alone, just had to pop to farm house for tokens for shower, all in all good weekend and met lovely family and children x Rob and Lynn.

Mixed Bag

This site is a bit of a mixed bag of good points and not so good. Good Points: Good location near lovely Maldon. Central location in Essex to reach the main cities/attractions of the northern part of Essex. Heybridge Basin is about a mile away with good waterside pubs (recommend the Jolly Sailor for food), Tiptree tea room and nice walks along the River Blackwater. Nice level site with short grass with easy access. On the pitches on the left hand side, waste water can be put into the ditch using a long waste water pipe. Unfortunately, you do not get the evening sun if you pitch on this side. Quiet site. Bad Points: Shower and toilet situated in an outhouse next to a barn. Lots of cobwebs and really quite shabby (cracked and missing tiles). Whilst the actual toilet, sink and shower were kept at a reasonable level of cleanliness, the rest of the two rooms (separate shower room) were not very clean. Cold water only to the sink taps and no soap or any means to dry your hands, though toilet paper was provided. There is a 50p charge to use the shower which is not very powerful so you can just manage to have a shower and wash your hair but insufficient time to use conditioner unless you want to spend another 50p. No information on local attractions either from owner or leaflets. Conclusion: At £12 per night, the charge is reasonable but electricity is metered so you have to allow for that and 50p for a shower. Taken into consideration that there is a shower and toilet provided, I would say the nightly charge is at about the right level. Given the condition of the toilet and shower room, I would not want to pay more than this.

Very unfriendly and expensive

We stayed here recently and when we arrived we were greeted by a rude woman who rushed over and told us she would rather we pitched up away from the barn as her horse had just had a foal- fair enough but no hello or advice- just that then she walked off! We discovered for ourselves the electric meter that cost us an additional £20 to use thier electric. The showers were also 50p tokens to use but that and the toilets were so grotty and in bad repair that I didn't want to use either. There were tiles that had fallen off the wall in the toilet, mouldy and grubby and they didn't even supply toilet roll! It was a basic site with a nice grassy area to pitch up on but the road noise was loud as was the rugby match happening one evening. When my husband went to pay the lady just took the money and shut the door later having to come back to him later to give us the change she hadn't bothered to give us. Not a friendly place to be and having to pay so much on a shabby site will definitely prevent us from returning.

No frills but worth a visit

Situated close to Heybridge Basin and to the market town of Maldon, this CL is flat and spacious and has easy access for all sizes of unit. There is a basic toilet block near the entrance, with wc and token operated hot shower. Electricity is available to all pitches via their own dedicated electric meter, which during our visit in August 2015, cost less than  £1 per night. The site is part of a stud farm with a number of horses in the adjacent fields. It is a quiet site with easy access to nearby pubs, which all serve good quality food. The owners are very welcoming and I recommend it for a short break.

Weekend break

We have just spent an enjoyable weekend at Saltcote Hall. Surrounded by fields and a nice walk around the sea wall to Heybridge Basin this is in a great spot. The site has toilet and shower facilities and are more than adequate, the only down side is that there was no hot water from basin in toilet or toilet roll.(so make sure you take your own). Having said that its position to local amenities more than makes up for this and we will definitely be coming back.

Lovely situation

Have just spent the May Day Bank holiday weekend at this lovely site. Owner very welcoming and laid back about where to pitch etc. Lots of lovely walks and two pubs nearby. My only gripe is that we booked this as it advertised shower and WC. Unfortunately, they were not to a very high standard, in fact, I wouldn't use them. So as long as you go prepared to use your own facilities this is a lovely quiet site. Would definitely return.

We love it here!

We are heading off tomorrow for our 5th visit here in a year, it is a lovely site with plenty to do. Five minutes across the road you are on the Blackwater estuary which is a lovely stroll or cycle both ways, you can head along to the Jolly Sailor pub near the lock then follow the path along the side of the canal, we have walked this in winter & summer and it is always enjoyable. The site owners are very friendly and helpful if required, there is electric hook ups which are metered but even in November when we had an electric heater on we were only putting in £2 to £3 per day. On summer evenings you can sit watching the rabbits playing on the field!
