Great CL

Really nice spacious CL, very well maintained and great welcoming owners. The George and dragon pub a few minutes walk away was welcoming and delicious home made food. The walk into Richmond is possible via public footpaths but is narrow and challenging at times. Great place to stay and we will be back !

Perfect site

A perfect 4 night stay at this lovely site, very peaceful and plenty of space for everybody. The directions to the site were excellent and gratefully received. We explored on foot, down to the river - it is a steep bank or steps and walked to Easby Abbey (English Heritage), no charge to access the grounds - well worth it. There is a car park at the side of the local church with a donation box if you need to drive. The Station is worth a visit and sells excellent ice-cream. Would certainly recommend if you are looking for peace and quiet and a lovely site.

A great stay

3 nights on a great CL that’s well kept, spacious, sunny, peaceful, has views and is on a footpath through NT woodland to the River Swale, Richmond and Easby Abbey. What more could you ask for. Richmond has a good Lidl in the centre with a car park that takes motorhomes. If driving to or from Richmond over the River Swale at Green Bridge (below the Castle), avoid the narrow steep lanes between the Bridge and the Castle/Market Place. Instead, use the road between Green Bridge and the Reeth Road (A61080) just to the west of the town centre. The CL is off Hudswell Lane. Join the Lane at either end but not in the middle where caravan/motorhome access is tight. The site has one drain for both black & grey water with a grate that has to be removed by hand for the black water.

Lovely Few Days, great site and location

Lovely 4 nights at this lovely site. Arrived early evening which wasn't a problem, greeted by lovely owners who gave details of walks and info etc.. Walks into Richmond straight from the site, a little tough going in places but well worth it!! and we tried the step route on our return!!! oh my!! needed a drink in the fabulous local pub at the end. Would definitely return to this lovely well kept site with lovely views. Thank you Mrs & Mrs Edwards (Nottinghamshire) 25th May - 28th May 2023

Plenty to do in Richmond

We really enjoyed our stay at Scar Close. The facilities are well laid out and the site is well looked after. The location is stunning with excellent views across the fields from most pitches. There are several walks in the woods which can be done directly from the site. One morning I watched three Deer grazing in the woods not far from the CL. The George and Dragon community pub is an easy 15 minute walk. It is possible to walk into Richmond, although the climb back up from the river requires good mobility. Richmond itself is a beautiful town with lots of shops, cafe's, restaurants. We walked to Easby Abbey along the river, past the Castle and Falls. The Station is worth a visit with a couple of cinema screens, gallery, shops and popular cafe which are housed in the old railway station. We would definitely recommend this site and plan to return.

Lovely site

Very good CL site, owners greeted us on arrival. Very spacious and tranquil with great walks straight from the site, it is a 2 mile walk into the centre of Richmond, walked up Whitcliffe scar straight from the site, stunning views. The George and Dragon pub is an easy 10 minute walk away, and what a pub. Open fire, great food, the home made steak pie is the best I’ve ever had, went back a few nights later and ordered it again, yummy. The staff and locals are so friendly, you feel like a regular. The only think I would like changing, is the water tap in-between the hard standing pitches could do with some flag stones putting down, it was a bit uneven and muddy when filling up the aqua roll. Overall we will definitely return to this lovely CL.

Great Site for visiting Richmond if you enjoy walking.

Just spent three nights at this site on a large hard standing pitch. Nice and peaceful even though the site was busy. Only one toilet and at times there were eight vans on site. This aside it is a well kept site behind the owners bungalow. There is a lovely walk from the site to Richmond through the woods, down the hill to the river so sound footwear is recommended. The walk took us around 35 minutes. Richmond was well worth the visit and we enjoyed the Castle and a guided tour of the Georgian Theatre.

A brilliant CL

If you want a spacious, peaceful, immaculately maintained CL with welcoming owners, a short walk to a lovely village pub, and a longer walk to an historic market town, then this is a must. It is also a great base to visit the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. Mobile phone reception was fine, and if you need internet access, we had good speeds on both EE and O2. COVID precautions both at the site and the local pub were excellent.

No scars at scar close

The CL is very spacious but there is another pitching area for 3 caravans that’s equally as good if not better it has just as good views and feels more private a nice walk through woods to Richmond but only for the reasonably fit as steep climb back up Richmond is lovely and the surrounding scenery can’t be beaten the walk to eastbound abbey is nice and flat along following the old railway track from the station the only slight criticism i have is the toilet its ln a portaloo type shed it was clean and did flush but was so cramped you could hardly move in it everything else was perfect
