Only a one night stop

We visited this CL in May 2013 as part of our Orkney & Shetland trip. Having just spent four nights at the Point of Ness site in Stromness, we needed a site just for one night before catching the overnight ferry from Kirkwall to Lerwick the next evening. We arrive unannounced which didn’t appear to be a problem to the owner but there was only one pitch available for two motorhomes! For just the one night one of us was allowed to park up beside the owners barns which was supposed to be more sheltered than the actual site as we seemed to stay in the middle of a full on gale! A temporary electric hook up was made available to us. However we were mistaken to think that our pitch was more sheltered as we were buffeted all night long by high winds which shook the van & rattled all the loose metalwork on the adjacent barn! The views from the site over Eynhallow Sound to Rousay were spectacular. There is a short circular walk down to the Broch of Gurness from the site and we had a nice beach walk along the Sands of Evie before heading back inland & to the site. The dogs enjoyed running into the sea chasing sticks & stones! We only stayed the one night, but from what we experienced, the site is well looked after and located in a great setting overlooking the coastline.

Orkney free of caravans

We decided on trip to Orkney for two weeks in late June 13. However worried about sea crossing on ferry and how I was going to back my Hobby onto the ferry, I am not bad at reversing but down a ferry ramp - fear I am afraid what with all the other drivers watching - no way. Spoke to Pentland ferries, no problem we'll back it on free. Booked ferry ticket there & then. Ferry no problems at all. Stayed at Nigley Nr Evie - boy O boy what a site and fantasic views over the sea loch. Security on site was top notch, with owners cat checking out everyone who arrived & departed, providing you paid in fish. Missed Jim owner as he was on holidaybut his son looked in daily.Island was wonderful and being honest 2 weeks wasn't enough. We were the only caravan on site , motorhomes yes, so why not many caravan, probably ferriesI guess, but from our point it wasn't a problem. I would certainly recomend Nigley nr Evie site for a quite loction with those views.Sand beach is 5 minute drive & you can see it from the caravan, beach is about 3 miles long. As mentioned Jim has a box with Touism Info / DVD's & mags etc.

You don't go to Orkney for the weather

Our arrival at Nigley, near Evie was greeted not just by the gentle cat Micky and the site owner but also by brilliant sunshine. Though the sunshine didn't stay long enough for my liking, our stay here on this well set out quiet site with panoramic views was excellent. All site facilities close to hand, accessible and well organised. Also a box containing videos and lots of local info. If we make it back up to Orkney in the caravan in the future we will certainly go for this site.
