Outstanding view and beautiful site

This is a wonderful site from which to sit and watch the Southampton Water marine traffic go by - an ever changing view. We had three nights and were happy to use our own facilities (loo and shower) and the electric hook up was just £3.50 on the meter. 'Broke the rules' on arrival by missing the reception (the door was open so we didn't see the sign) and consequently didn't position ourselves on our pitch correctly - should have centred our van on the pitch number! Easy access though and completely flat pitch - no need for any tweaking. As mentioned by a previous reviewer, it's easy to take the previous turning which is signed to Stonehill, but the drive to the site is immediately afterwards and does say Stonehill Farm - a little hidden by the undergrowth. A bit confusing with the other caravan areas in the farm as well as the CL, but the five pitches for club members are all along the fence overlooking a field of horses and the view to the sea. We crammed a huge amount into our break - the highlight was the visit to Exbury Gardens which was exceptional at this time of the year, but Hythe on market day (Tuesday) was delightful and we were most impressed with the facilities at the Calshot Activities centre. Can highly recommend the Thai Corner restaurant in Hythe (very busy every night) and the welcome at the Jolly Sailor pub at Ashlett Creek (food only at weekends). The only drawback, and it might affect us visiting here again, was the dreadful noise from Fawley Oil Refinery throughout the night. Just like a constant jumbo jet above, from midnight until after 6.00am! In researching, whilst lying awake, it seems as if it's something to do with flare off, so may not be every night, but I do feel for the locals - I guess they're used to it, but when you're out in the countryside, (and it is really beautiful countryside nearby) you're expecting birdsong and wildlife. Lesson learned - ear plugs or Nytol.
