Stunning

Made use of this site on 12th and 13th August which coincided with exceptionally good weather. Temp approx 25/26° with only a little or no breeze. I am mentioning this only because this impacts greatly on the site's location. In weather like this it is absolutely stunning. There is only one motorhome placement in addition to three cabins which are carefully spread out and so not encroaching in any way. This is a working farm and you get the odd visit from hens, but that's about it. Water on the placement and EHU also. The owner provides a metal fire pit and you can purchase bags of logs. You are only 150 yards from the lochside which was being used to great advantage by some paddle-boarders. If you are into watersports, walking and/or fishing, this is the place for you. Only 20 minutes to Oban for its great seafood and ferries to the islands. About 15 mins to the Ben Cruachan power station buried deep in the mountain. Great site, thoroughly enjoyed it and hope to return.

Strange CL with only one pitch!

Strange little site with only one pitch. A small piece of land which feels like someone didn't know what to do with it so put down some hardcore, stuck in a shed and a tap and called it a CL. It seems also to be used as storage for boats and trailers, old rope, empty metal oil cans and various other bits and pieces. It would have been more useful to turn the shed into a toilet and/or shower in my opinion as at the moment all it is used for is storing the rubbish bins although I guess if you have bikes not being used you could store them inside safely too. The chickens were very friendly but the novelty soon wears off when they start leaving their calling cards everywhere, not something you want to get on your shoes or doggy paws and take into your motorhome! Having to watch where you walk all the time is no fun. There is a wind break provided for you to wrap around your outfit to keep the birds out if you want to. The site owner did ask us if we wanted her to put the birds back in their run which we politely asked her to do and she respectfully did as apparently previous members who stayed here had complained about the mess and I can understand why. Yes the views from the owners driveway are spectacular, the mountains and loch look stunning in the sunshine, but at £23 per night I was a little underwhelmed especially as there isn't even a loo and I'm sure this could easily be remedied. The owner was very pleasant and welcoming but this 'site' could be so much better if it was tidied up.

Almost perfect

The welcome at Airds Bay was warm and friendly. the location is stunningly beautiful with breath-taking views of mountains and hills overlooking Loch Etive. Access to walks from the site were plentiful & we enjoyed visiting the nearby smokery at Inverawe, including the delicious delights of its cafe & deli. The local village of Taynuilt is only 20 minutes walk away. It is very quiet & the cafe only operates 4 days per week (Thurs-Sunday) in high season. We enjoyed a meal at the Taynuilt Inn which is dog-friendly. The train service from Taynuilt is convenient & easy. We made the 20 minute journey to nearby Oban & enjoyed the picturesque harbour that lived up to its claim as the seafood capital of Scotland. Unfortunately, time did not allow us to take a ferry to Mull or to take a trip on one of the many sight seeing boat trips. The pitch at the CL is very good in many ways. It is big enough to accommodate an awning (we used our awning). It has its own patio & shed. We lit a fire in the fire pit provided & spent a fabulous evening sitting in its glow & warmth. However, the pitch does feel like a rather rough, spare piece of someone's yard & you share the space with trailers. This was a small matter & was more than overshadowed by the beauty and convenience of this site. As a bonus - the hens are friendly & inquisitive.

Could be really nice

This one pitch CL has the potential to be a really lovely site. It is set in stunning countryside, really peaceful and you could head for the CL fully anticipating a lovely break. However, we do feel there were some negatives which occurred during our stay. Firstly, the pitch does feel somewhat as if you are parked up in a storage area. At the time of our stay there was a large boat trailer, a smaller box trailer and two other trailers with boats on them all of which were in close proximity to the pitch. Secondly, we believe that if you had wanted to put up an awning not only would it mean that your outfit would be even closer to the trailers and boats but it would also have probably proved impossible for the boats to be removed and used as they were during our stay (we don't have an awning so wasn't a problem for us but if you do it may be an issue) Under the circumstances we don't feel that it currently warrants the £20 per night cost. We have stayed on many CL's that were of a far better set-up and only paid £14/15 max. We were definately expecting a lot more for the £20 cost. As we stated initially, this has the potential to be a cracking little CL if the negatives we mention are addressed.

Hidden Gem. One Pitch Site. Not to be missed.

This is a fantastic site! This CL has just the one pitch - which is brilliant - we stayed for a full week. Communication was easy when arranging our stay and we experienced a friendly welcome on arrival. The pitch is hard standing which comes with a SHED, PATIO and BENCH - massively extending your available space! You will likely get a visit from the hens and the cats who are very friendly, however if you wish to not be interrupted a windbreak is provided. FREE WIFI is available if you can pick it up from the nearby cabins. Views are excellent and the beach is only 1 minute away, a literal stone's throw. Locally we visited Oban, Inverawe Smokehouses (way-marked forest walks with smoked salmon to finish), Fearnoch (way-marked forest walks), Ganavan (Beach with free parking), and Ben Lora (way-marked mountain walk with free parking). On our return it was great to go for a wild swim in Aird's Bay. The bay is very safe, you can be 300 yards out and the water will only be up to your waist - alternatively when the tide is out you can walk around the bay. This site is suitable for everyone, families with children or holiday makers who wish to escape from it all. Would not hesitate to recommend this site to anyone! Book this CL you will not regret it.

Single pitch CL with cute farm dogs and free range chickens

We are repeat visitors to this CL which benefits from having only one pitch. This allows us to get away from work stress and prevents us from having to deal with other campers. There are holiday chalets on the site, but these are far enough away not to intrude on the tranquillity. The owners of the working smallholding are friendly and welcoming. On the pitch there is an electric hookup, a fresh water tap, grey water rinse tap, there is also a grey and black waste water dump as well. The hard-standing pitch has exclusive access to an adjacent patio-ed area with a shed for use by the campers. We find this quite useful and we do not pitch our awning at this CL because of this area. The nearby village of Taynuilt has a couple of good shops and a very good butcher. The CL is also very handy for nearby Oban, which has everything you might expect of a small town. There are a few things to do relatively close by, but our main purpose of visiting here is to get away from work, so we tend to walk on one of the many local walks and lounge around rather than specifically sight see. The most unique selling point for this CL is that it has only one pitch and this is what brought us to this CL initially and why we return. We will be back next chance we get.
