Great CL

This for me is the perfect CL. Easy access, quiet, pitches well spaced, firm ground, clean, grass regularly cut. and a sensible price, not the rip off bandwagon a lot of sites have jumped onto. So many CLs purport to be quiet but are located on a busy road, not this one, being on a no-through lane. Backs onto a working farm - arable - very little noise and quiet at the end of the day, this stay was right in the middle of August harvest and I slept beautifully. Good dog walks from site, and a half mile walk to the nursery for a carvery. Thoroughly recommend

Horncastle Horse Fair

Perfect site to use as a base to explore the historic Horncastle - about three quarters of a mile walk to the town centre. A visit to the Sir Joseph Banks Centre provides a wealth of information about Horncastle’s historic past dating back to Roman times. Site is relatively level grass, with the usual amenities of electric hook up, water and chemical disposal. It is on a working farm so be prepared for activity associated with that - no bother for us. Plenty of local walks around Horncastle and other places to visit further afield such as Woodhall Spa. Site owner, Sarah Frick is lovely. Not intrusive but available if needed. Now we have found it, we will be returning.

Peaceful farm location, very highly recommended

Three night Bank Holiday stay. Easy to find, good access , even with a large outfit. Down a dead end, no passing traffic apart from the odd farm vehicle, total peace and tranquility. Owners very pleasant and welcoming, then left us to enjoy our hoilday (exactly as we like!). Well kept large site; five (and genuinely five) pitches on a circular layout with a picnic bench in the middle. Lots of space between pitches. No frills but all basic amenities provided, including electric hook up. Horncastle town centre is an easy walk of just under a mile. Small Tesco, two Co-ops and plenty of small shops. Very pleasant walk along a grass track back to the A158 and Crowders Garden Centre - completely dog friendly, including indoor cafe seating for those with dogs. Saw roe deer and hare in the field right behind our pitch. And lovely to hear the roaring lions at night from just across the fields at the excellent Wolds Wildlife Park, also very highly recommended. We have booked our next stay within a couple of hours of returning home.

Very peaceful

This was our first booking with the caravan and motorhome club , we booked for the Easter break quite late and couldn't get into our usual site so decided to check out the webpage , so glad we did . A pretty 5 van site with lots of pitch space on grass . Lovely and well kept but as with a lot of sites grass clippings are a problem . Water tap and grey water disposal with rubbish bins but no other facilities which we prefer . Lovely to see chickens and ducks in the house gardens ( makes me feel at home as I miss my chickens when I'm on holiday ) , would have been lovely to buy fresh eggs from an honesty box as we have in other sites . Horncastle is a short walk down the road , dogs can be walked down the quiet road and there's a public footpath at the end . Co-op and Tescos in horncastle as well as a plethora of charity shops for those bargains . A ride out to one of lincolnshires huge beaches is a must when you are here . Will come back again

Convenient site for the Wolds

Stayed on this CL for 5 nights over the May Bank Holiday weekend. The site is very convenient for the Lincolnshire Wolds and we enjoyed a few walks in the area. Located on a dead end road on the North side of Horncastle it is convenient for the town centre and shops. A gravel road runs round the centre of the site and gives good access to the pitches situated around the edges of the site. The site is in farmland and is quiet - a good place for a relaxing stay.

New motorhome shakedown

This was our fist expedition with our new motorhome after having a caravan for 10 years.  We only booked about an hour before arrival and found that we had the entire CL to ourselves. Lovely and quiet, a great location for walking and Horncastle is only about 20 mins. walk away. Managed to find a couple of geocaches on the way into town as well. Very easy to access.

A nice CL

Stayed here for 8 days in early May 2015. Site is a smallish flat well maintained grassy area with a hard circular road round the middle and numbered informal pitches around the edge. There was only one other van on site when we arrived, so we picked our pitch and set up. There are tall hedges around the site, so no views but the site seems open. The bins are general - no specific recycling bin. A quiet site with the only noise being the occasional tractor from the adjacent pig breeding farm - it's all indoors and there is no smell. Good TV and Mobile (EE) signal. It's a 1+ mile walk into Horncastle. The site is ideal for walking in the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds. We also visited Lincoln and Skegness, both about 20 miles. The owner does not live on site, but a few hundred yards towards Horncastle from the site - we did not see them until we went to pay. A nice CL.

Good Clean and Flat Grass Site

Stayed for a pre booked week during June. On arrival all pitches were occupied so parked up and walked back to owners house and problem was resolved quickly. All pitches on grass within easy access to water, waste and bins. High hedging to all sides and adjacent to working farm but very little noise. Quiet lane outside which was ideal for walking dogs into Horncastle and country side. Horncastle is a must for antique shops and shopping. Ideally placed for Lincolnshires attractions. We would definitely stay again but would telephone the owners the day before our arrival to make sure booked placement is free.

Steer clear of pitch 1!

We spent 2 nights at this CL - long enough to find some problems that we would work at solving next time we visit! As stated in another review, you pass the owners home about 300 yards before you reach the CL entrance. We arrived to find all 5 pitches occupied but only had to wait 15 minutes before we could set up. However, 2 more units that arrived behind us had longer waits! It's a sign that the site is well used but also a little chaotic at times - make sure you give a time of arrival when booking is our advice! Pitches 2, 3, 4 and 5 are all ideal for catching the sun most of the day but steer clear of pitch 1 - unless like us there is no choice! 1 is in the shadow of a hedge and under two enormous trees that drop bits constantly meaning that it is very unwise to open roof lights for fear of damaging the fly screens. The grass could have been a little shorter but we did visit at the end of a week of heavy rain. There is easy access to water and chemical disposal; there are 3 dustbins but no on site recycling. Turn right out of the site for a dog walk down the lane but be aware that there can be heavy farm vehicles running up and down at times. We walked in to Horncastle (there is a decent size Tesco on the way) and another day we walked across the fields to West Ashby and a welcome drink at the West Ashby Arms - they serve food but we didn't partake.

Lovely oasis

An easy to find site, but no welcome as owners live down the lane. Could do with advance notice of this and where to pay.  The pitches were well kept, very clean and a lovely quiet site. Stayed 3 nights, Would visit again.
