Easy access to site & a number of level pitches, wonderful open views, peaceful location, footpath & unusual ancient monument adjacent. Great spot to access all Peak Park attractions. Monsal trail 2.5 miles away to access fabulous track to Bakewell for cycling or walking. Barrel Inn @ Bretton is a must visit for great food & views into Chatsworth & around. We always return to this site over a number of years, appeal never fades.
Fabulous views, great for cycling and walking!
Access is along a lane with passing places, and a tight turn into the site - but don't let this put you off. Grassy site with some uneven ground surrounded by a few trees - a wooded dell with fabulous views towards Hathersage - something you won't get on a big all-singing-all-dancing site where you're often staring into someone elses 'van! Great location for walking and cycling - the Monsal Trail is only two miles away to Bakewell, and we also cycled from the site to Eyam. Great fish & chips in Tideswell, and the Barrel Inn on the top road to Eyam get's my vote for food!
Years of happy stays
Having started to review the sites we visit I was surprised to find none on this site.
We have been visiting this site for over 20years and come August B/H it will be 4 times this year, each time we visit we find something new to do or see.
The owner Peter Atkin is very pleasant and always pops to have a chat & check that everything is ok.
The views are beautiful and we have often sat out in the evening and watched the Gliders taking off in the distance, its lovely and peaceful.
Always plenty to do, Castleton with its Mines, Historical Ruins & gift shops, Bakewell lovely Market Town, market days are great plenty of shops to visit & of course the Bakewell Puddings.
Tideswell is just up the road about a mile with its beautiful Church, also has all the amenities you may need. It has a fabulous Butchers & Bakers along with paper shop, grocers & small supermarket not forgetting our regular arrival night visit to the fish & chip shop located just opposite the church being greeted with jovial welcome from the owner along with lovely fish & chips. The village also has a number of Pubs.
Just outside the site is a footpath on which you can walk for hours picking up different routes and exploring the countryside, its funny though we nearly always return through the village of Great Hucklow where we have a little rest & refreshment (pint for me bowl of water for the boys) this is also our Sunday evening visit, they do a lovely Sunday roast.
We would highly recommend this site.
