Our sixth visit

We travel 800 miles round trip to visit this CL. That says it all. Very basic CL on grass. No electrics. But what it lacks in amenities, it makes up for in views. We’ve stayed at over a hundred sites and CLs and this has THE best view from any of them. Even in the rain the view out to Skye, Eigg and Rum is amazing. Even in the mist just looking at the ever changing bay in front of the CL is so relaxing. There’s a commercial site next door. It is a bit scruffy but has a new owner who looks like he’s tidying things up. We have only stayed June or September when there are very few people in the site next door. During our early visits we rushed round catching the ferry to the islands etc. But nowadays we find the pull of the view too great and only leave the CL to buy groceries from Arisaig village shop. We are compelled to site by the van with a glass of wine and soak in the view.

Amazing Views

Whilst this CL is basic it has the most amazing views of Eigg, Rhum and Muck. The sunsets were truly beautiful. Having a dog it was great to have the beach at your back door and being able to wander up and down the beach whenever you wanted. We went down the road to pay the owner who made us very welcome. If you just want to relax, enjoy the scenery and potter around this site is for you. Beautiful!

Stunning

Our second visit and still just as stunning as ever. Prebooked so just pulled in and set up where you feel like. Grassy and steep but dry so pitched on the top of the mound just above to clear bay. Spotless sands with the clearest water you will ever see. 3 water points and septic tank in the woods nearby. No electric but you come here for view not gadgets. Three internet and o2 phone signals both good. sunsets and sunrises fantastic. Pitch black on a night. Nearby caravan park so dont know how busy in summer as we always go off season. But that view!!!!

Pros: the best view in Britain, cons: commercial site adjacent

We have visited perhaps 100 CLs over the years and without doubt this has the most amazing view of all. As a result we have returned to this CL more than any other. We live in Wales and it is a two day drive to get here. But its worth you. You pitch on the edge of the field where it banks down to the beach about 2 metres below. The beach loops round to form an almost circular bay about 500 metres across. The sand is almost white in places. The bay is dotted with islands. The tidal range is large so that some islands are completely submerged. Others remain permanently above the water and in spring there are a few nesting sea birds: we came across a pair of oyster catchers one year, a pair of terns another. The changes caused by the tide means the immediate view is always different – look away for 10 minutes and you’ll see the difference. Beyond the bay you are looking out to sea and the Sound of Sleat which separates the mainland from the islands. To the north is Skye. On a clear day you can see the Cullins. To the west you can see from your caravan the islands of Rhum and the northern part of Eigg. The view is awesome. It is enhanced by poor weather as you watch the squalls blowing across this extensive seascape. There is nothing like it anywhere. The beach is great for the kids. We bought a small kayak and spend hours just pottering around the small bay. It’s a basic CL: just a field with a tap. Chemical point is in the woods. You don’t get midges on the CL but you do get them in the woods at times. There’s a commercial site adjoining the CL. It’s a scruffy site. We generally go to the CL during school term time when there are few people in the commercial site. The beach is open to everyone. But outside of the school holidays we often have the section in front of the CL to ourselves. It is perhaps the most expensive non-electric CL on the network. You are paying for the view. Worth every penny. We only wish we lived nearer.

Beautiful place, but...

Lovely setting but very pricey considering the lack of facilities. Its a long way from here to anywhere for food, fuel, shopping etc. Can't deny that its in a spectacular part of the countryside. I think this site is cashing in on being the only one for miles.
