Viewfirth, May visit

As the name suggest this new CL overlooks the Pentland Firth. The views are something special, with the island of Hoy directly in front, to the right (east), over St Johns Head, is the Isle of Stroma, and to the left (west) is Dunnet Head. This very quiet CL has 5 large grass & H/S serviced pitches, and is easily accessed being a mile along a 2ml loop lane, with passing places, off the Thurso/John O'Groats road. The pitches are separated by turf banks and do slope down towards the road. The quiet road is fine for walking ones dog and there are paths leading to the Castle of Mey in one direction and to St.John's Head in the other. There are lots of wildlife in the area, seals on the shore, puffins, skuas, guillimots etc at St John's Head, Skylarks, Curlews & Lapwings over the site, and if one is fortunate you might spot a whale or a pod of dolphins in the firth. There are a couple of camping pods on the farm but far enough away from the CL not to cause any noise issues. The nearest supermarkets, Lidl and Tesco, are at Thurso one way and Wick the other. A couple of small drawbacks are that the H/S sections of some of the pitches are close to the turf banks and that the elsan point is 150m away up the drive by the farm. This is a new CL and the very friendly owners are planning further improvements. The site is ideal for anyone wishing to use either the Gill Bay or the John O'Groats ferry to the Orkneys. We will certainly use this site again if we're ever in the area.
