Good for families

Unexpectedly peaceful site near London's heart.

Well run, clean and organised, good layout. This site is surprisingly tranquil considering its location, there are jumbo jets passing overhead but they are strangely unobtrusive and traffic noise is minimal. There is a flock of green parakeets in the surrounding mature trees to keep you amused - take binoculars. The location of Abbey Wood is near to the M25 and easy to get to. There is not much in Abbey Wood itself except a railway station, supermarket and a ruined abbey. Using the train to get about makes sense - trains run every 15 min. and take 20 min. to get to Greenwich (Greenwich market, Royal Observatory, Cutty Sark)for example. Visit Eltham Palace its a real gem. Pie and Mash(with optional eels and liquer) at Greenwich market. The Arts café near the Thames Barrier is well worth a visit for a bohemian vibe overlooking the river surrounded by small artisan and artist studios. Very enjoyable visit to the otherwise manic metropolis.
