Altnahara is a wonderful little site in a fantastic setting. The pitches are close together but the wonderful location more than makes up for this. If you can manage without it, the electric free pitches are lovely. The wardens are extrememly friendly and very helpful. They couldn't have been nicer when we had to leave early due to the awful weather forecast. My children loved the site, with fishing and swimming right from the doorstep. Its a long way to a shop so remember to stock up, although the wardens do have a supply of frozen bacon, rolls, long life milk, icecreams, etc. We are already looking forward to returning next year. FANTASTIC 7DAYS
We travelled from Norfolk to this site for 7 nights, what a treat it was just perfect...great pitch right on the waters edge wonderful walks and the scenery is to die for. Russ and his wife Gina are just great always there to help and guide you if needed. The site is kept so clean and tidy by the wardens. The sunsets are the best ever. we travelled 1500 miles in 5 wks towing our caravan but this was the highlight of our holiday and it was WORTH IT. thank you we shall be back..
In the middle of nowhere, literally!
This site has had a lot of positive publicity over the last few months so I thought Id give it a try. Its quite a trek so be sure you really want to go before you book. You might have spotted my reservation? Small site, no toilets but not really an issue for modern units. About half the pitches have hook up the rest not, again not a huge problem. But what is the attraction? The obvious is the peacefulness and tranquility of it but its not really the most picturesque part of Scotland as the hills are quite barren. I know this a I am Scottish and I've visited a number of sites and locations in the past. The loch is of course beautiful to look at. The wardens are very friendly and helpful. the nearest shops are a good 40-50 mile round trip away so make sure you have plenty of provisions especially if in a Motorhome (& not towing a car!). Now I have been on a quest to find good sites with great facilities and good dog walks and facilities aside you would have thought that this site/area would be great for dog walks but its not. There is one across the road from the site and you can't let your dog off due to the sheep. Where else is there? There isn't unless you drive somewhere which kind of defeats the point. You can of course walk along the single track road in either direction and take in the views but again you have to keep your dog on the lead all the time as there is quite a lot of traffic during the day and of course the "motorbikes". Bzzzzzzzzzzzz!
Fabulous site
You cannot beat the location of this site, right on the side of the Loch, The views from your van are amazing, First visit to this site and it won't be the last! The wardens Russ and Gina were extremely friendly and always available if you need anything or any advice. The whole family had a brilliant time Fishing, walking and relaxing. This site was perfect for us and we will definitely be back to visit.
