'Excellent'

First time back at this site after 13 years and still as good as it was then...very welcoming wardens and facilities are spotlessly clean. Very peacefull and relaxing and a good base to tour the area, would highly recommend. Good site for both caravans and motor homes. Can't wait for the next visit, won't leave it so long next time.

Cracking Site

Our favourite Site so far. Lovely warm and friendly welcome from the Wardens. This is a fantastic Site for nature lovers, lots of mature native trees, rabbits, foxes, squirrels and a tame cock pheasant. The whole Site is very well maintained as are the toilet blocks. You can get to the seaside in about twenty minutes making it good for families. We will return. Derek & Jill.

Just Great!

Our first visit to this site and what a lovely peaceful site it is in late April. We are interested in history and plenty of English Heritage sites within easy reach especially Battle Abbey which is wonderful. We visited Brighton, Hastings and Eastbourne and then returned to this gem. Everyone was really friendly and the site is clean and well maintained with walks starting directly from the site. We will be back as there is so much to see in this area.

Great site in fabulous surroundings

We visited over the busy Easter Bank Holiday weekend, and were met at the gate by the friendly wardens, who quickly explained the site and the available pitches. We chose one on what would have been the terrace of the old house, and it was a stunning location. The site is well laid out, and despite being full (although not all the grass pitches were open when we visited) didn't seem busy or overcrowded. Reception gladly lent us a book on the history of the site, the mansion that once stood there, the family who owned it and the many uses it had prior to it falling into disrepair - well worth asking if you can borrow this for the evening! While the house may have gone, the beautiful gardens, specimen trees, terraces and stone steps remain and this gives the site character that is in missing others - no sense that you are camping in a field here! Despite being busy, the toilet blocks were spotless. This site is a little gem in the network, the wardens are friendly and helpful and we have already booked a return visit! Highly recommended

Peace and Quiet in Wonderful Countryside

What a great site; lovely and quiet, easy to get to and spotlessly clean. On arrival I found that I had made a mistake when booking however they managed to fit us in and were very understanding about the booking error. The site is very quiet and set in great surroundings with a variety of pitches (hard standing and grass) with plenty of space and all have some form of shade. The bathrooms are spotlessly clean as are the grounds and well situated to ensure no one has to walk too far. The wardens are very friendly and have some great recommendations about places to visit, eat etc. A site we will definitely be returning to.

Lovely Site

Love this site. We've been before. Peaceful and pretty with plenty of pitches. We had gravel instead of hardstanding this time but wouldn't do that again as the gravel kept coming into our van. Site was very clean and staff were very polite and helpful. Love the walk down to Catsfield to the local pub and shop. Pub allows the dog in too. Great for families. Playground great and plenty to do locally. Wifi could be better. We will visit again.

One of the best

As well as immaculate facilities and generously sized pitches, this site also boasts stunning scenery, beautiful shrubs and trees, well manicured grass, and a relaxed atmosphere.  A public footpath to the nearby village of Catsfield is a delightful experience, great for taking the dog for a walk, although you'll need to keep him on a lead, but there is a park in Catsfield with plenty of space to let him off. The village has a delightful Sausage Shop, and a convenience store for essential items. There is a nearby farm shop, and a Tesco Express/petrol station, or for a major shopping trip Hastings is about 10-15 minute drive away, where you'll find a huge Tesco that seems to sell just about everything.  There are plenty of places to visit, or if you want to stay on site and relax that is great too. There is a large children's play area good enough to keep them occupied rather than playing around everyone's pitch. We stayed during a bank holiday weekend with lots of families on site, but it was very peaceful (I parked away from the play area!) The wardens are friendly and efficient, and strictly enforce the 5mph speed limit which makes the experience for everyone all the better. The office has lots of useful information, and some essential items should you get caught short. One slight niggle is the lack of WiFi, but to be honest I feel invigorated for not being able to use my laptop for a whole week. That's not a bad thing at all!  Gets a perfect 10 from us, and we shall be returning!

Some negatives, mainly due to our plot

Unfortunately there were only two plots to choose from when we got there and we ended up on 69. Although it is designated as gravel with awning, the awning only just fits (we had to move the caravan over past the marker post to facilitate this) and the plot is really too small as you cannot sit outside the awning unless you are pretty much on the road.  I don't think the full charge should have been applied to this plot. Other downsides for us were its proximity to the play area, great if you have kids, but noisy for those of us who don't, the lack of sun on the plot (which is the case with many on this site as there are so many trees creating shade) and the gravel was actually more mud and twigs than gravel.  As it was damp it was very dirty and every time we stepped inside the caravan it was filthy again. Other than that, the site was very clean although the shower cubicles were quite small compared to some sites we have stayed on. There are a couple of steps at the rear of the plot to allow you to access the electricity point and we found that people from behind kept using it as a cut through between our caravan and car.  My husband did tell the warden and they put a notice up advising that the steps were only to access the electricity point so that may solve it for the future. We visited this site because it is in close proximity to my sister but I don't think we'd go again as it is not guaranteed that you can get one of the better plots on the site.
