Perfect location even if the weathers not great!

I have stayed at this site several times now in low season and it’s perfect. It is easy to do several long walks from the site and also good for cyclists, I usually walk to Trelissick ((NT) but it’s also possible to catch a bus to Falmouth, boat to Trelissick, and then to walk back. . The dog walking area is amazing. And there is a bus which goes to Truro and Newquay from the village and to Falmouth from outside the gate. There are lots of hard standing pitches and the private bathroom facilities are great. The Motorhome service area allows for disposal of grey waste and toilet waste in the same area and there is even a place to wash your hands afterwards…why don’t other sites have this? There is a shop and restaurant/pub you can walk to nearby. One thing that could improve it would be a dog walking area for when you return to your van with a dog who has had a really lovely time!

Easter week end away

Despite the ever changing weather the site remained dry under foot. Recepetion checking in was easy and the bar area was open. We made a better choice of pitch this time whereby we could connect our services to the pitch water and drainage, the site has a very good number of services pitches but not all of the services are on the right side of the caravan. Will return again plenty to do in the area, the site is located in a good spot and is straight onto a main road, Truro is close by, 5 miles ? close anyway to cycle, looks like there is an old lane leading towards Truro.

Winter break

We stayed here for a weekend in February as it's one of very few sites in the South West open at this time of year. It seemed quite busy with the areas nearest the only open toilet block already full. This meant quite a walk in the wind and rain to use the facilities, frustratingly walking past a much closer, but closed, block. There is some road noise that didn't bother us as we were forced to stay inside by the weather but might be more troublesome if sitting outside in the summer. The site appears well maintained, clean and tidy. There is a handy little cafe serving croissants and pasties, staff were very friendly and helpful with information about the area. Nice walk from the site down to the estuary at Devoran and Point.

A good winter stay

We spent 5 nights here in Jan 24. The only downside was the hum of traffic but it didn't put us off. Attractive and peaceful walks from the site to the creeks and Falmouth harbour and an excellent bus service to Falmouth and Truro which are worth visiting for the day. We didn't take bikes but there are some interesting cycling routes to explore from the site. Carnon Downs has a good Spar/post office. Although the site is now owned by the CAMC, it retains all the trappings from when it was a privately owned affiliated site and is run by the same local staff. Half the site was closed when we visited with only one shower block open but it was in excellent condition and there is a pleasant cafe/bar at the reception where we treated ourselves to a coffee and croissant.

Fabulous Site

Lovely site with very friendly and helpful staff. Lovely cafe/bar area with live singing two nights a week. Bus stop right outside site gate giving great access to Falmouth and Turo and beyond. Will definitely be going back.

Very large site, great location.

Lovely reception area, very friendly staff and receptionist. Lovely cafe/bar area which is great if you want to socialise throughout the day/evening. Various food vans attend this site every night, which is great if you do not like cooking. Bins for recycling and general rubbish at various locations. This is a very large site and because of this, pitches appear to be much bigger which is great. The flip side is that you do not socialise or speak to neighbours. I found this site particularly unfriendly, but this has nothing to do with the site itself, more the holiday makers. I looked to say 'Good morning' to so many people and was either ignored or had a begrudging 'hello' muttered back to me. I am not a huge fan of mixed shower/toilet blocks. It was explained to me as the new modern way forward. Each block has 12 rooms which house the bathroom private to yourself, ie toilet, basin and shower. Showers have a curtain, which again is not particulary hygienic (in my opinion) but I feel they should be men to the left side and women to the right, as often I walked into a mess and I do not want to be using a bathroom after a random man. Again, just my opinion. The shower block uses lights which come on when you move. The main lights in the main area were hitty miss and often I had to try to dry my hair in dusk, which was hard to see properly. Washing machines great/dryers great, just make sure you have 4 x £1 coins ready. On the whole a very nice site, very quiet and serene and very well maintained. I would very likely return.

Camping at Carnon Downs

Beautiful site, very spacious pitches snd fantastic facilities. Wifi not great which wouldn't be an issue with good weather which we unfortunately didn't have. We had a fantastic stay despite the rain the staff were friendly and the food vans looked great although we didn't use them.

Ideal location for visiting all four corners of Cornwall

This is our third visit (late June) to this lovely site in six years, the first since the Club purchased it. We have always chosen a grass pitch not too far from the office/club/entertainment and and stayed for a week. Lots of room for car, caravan and awning. The site was about 60% occupied but all was clean, with three wash blocks, so never a queue. There were mobile catering units on several evenings which we participated in twice. We booked as soon as we saw these units on site as we returned each day, and booked a slot to collect our food, which worked out well. (Those who just turned up might have waited an hour or so as these units were very popular) There was also live music and a quiz on four nights. Even though we were close, the volume was not intrusive, just nice to hear when we ate or read. Do note the major traffic disruption due to works on the A30 passing the north of Truro, due to go on till early next year. (Or longer by the progress being made) Lots of vehicles are avoiding the A30 and taking the local roads through Truro, against the signs etc. (Be prepared and set off early as even at 10.30, the traffic was tailed back from Truro to the site) Also, the road works say not to go through Truro, but as you are staying there, proceed as normal down towards the city as other routes are worse if towing! We shall stay again, in a year or two.

Great site

We stayed here twice over the last couple of weeks. The site is set out really well and feels relaxed and comfortable. The staff were all excellent, helpful, friendly and welcoming. The facilities in the modern blocks are self-contained shower/sink/toilets so not the usual Caravan Club arrangement but spotless and bright. The on-site cafe/bar serves excellent freshly baked croissants and pastries and coffee, as well as pasties and there are a number of visiting food vans. We will definitely return for a longer stay next time.
