Good for families

Feels like the middle of nowhere

We went as a family of 5, there is no phone signal and the TV reception intermittent. It rained for the first few days and with kids a porch is recommended (so as to keep the mud at bay). It is suggested you stock up before hand although there is a Sainsbury's a short drive away. Out of season it really is tricky finding anywhere to eat especially in the evenings so be prepared with DVDs and games when the weather is bad. The facilities onsite are clean and the toilet block warm, everything such as recycling, waste and water are all within a short distance. The pitches are spacious and you are literally in the middle of a forest. Great for exploring but be prepared with maps, download any routes or walks before going because theses things are not available at reception. Bikes are a good idea and the site has play area for kids and definitely take a walk into the National Trust Clumber Park as they have planned events and activities during the day. Visit the National Trust Workhouse also, this is great, make sure to get an audio device.
