Stayed here for a few nights over half term to visit friends and family in Saint Albans, reachable by half hourly bus service from a stop close to the site. The touring site is quite small, most of the business is for storage, but all the usual facilities are there and kept perfectly clean and tidy. We are advised not to leave things outdoors overnight because of resident foxes, but I did not see them, unfortunately. Apart from a little drift of rumbling traffic from the A1 and from aircraft, it was really peaceful. Transport to central London is via the rail station in Welwyn, which is either a drive/parking or a bus ride away. I didn’t try this. New town layout means it’s not possible to walk anywhere quickly “as the crow flies”! Welwyn is only 100 years old, but has an interesting history nevertheless. Saint Albans, of course is chock full of history, as well as quirky pubs, nice restaurants and shopping.
Great compact site
Great site that is compact but lots of room and close to Hatfield House. Great for walks
Nice and peaceful
Just wanted a couple of days away and too far from home. Commons Wood is a very nice and clean site with the usual facilities and just what we wanted. The staff and other people were friendly as you would expect. Lovely walk with or without a dog through small wooded area and you can get a drink at the Cricket Club 👍
A perfect stop over for us
We used the site as a stopover whilst travelling North. It was easy to get to and pitches were perfect. We had a little walk off site and found a very good local park. It is also perfect for a base if travelling in and out of London with a train station about 20minutes walk away. Staff were friendly and helpful and the facilities were all clean and tidy and very well maintained. Would stay here again. Thank you.
OUTSTANDING !!!!
Fabulous site, ideal for inter links to anywhere,
Quiet, friendly ,clean ,helpful , excellent dog walks through the woods and surrounding areas.
A must for wildlife enthusiasts and photographers.
Just returned home on the 6th august and after a 6 hour drive immediately rebooked for October due to missing out on so much more to see and do.
First time visit
I was looking for a site that would give me easy access to London. This was the perfect place.
Easy level walk to Welwyn Garden City Station (40 minutes level Walk) Hatfield Stn about the same, London Kings Cross 25 minutes by train for approx £10 return. Shops in both town are great including The Galloria.
The site was nice and clean and quiet, Staff are very friendly and helpful.
Hatfield house is close. A cricket ground next door as well as a Golf course.
Lots to do or Chill and relax.

Great site
Our first visit to Commons Wood, but it won't be our last. Very helpful and friendly wardens, well laid out site, and convenient for getting around. Shame the shower/toilet block is so dated, but everything worked very well, lots of hot water and good pressure in the showers. The staff are a credit to the club, thank you for making our visit enjoyable...
First Visit
We stayed at Commons Wood for the first time over the Easter break from 15-19 April. Very good site. Clean facilities good level and well maintained pitch. The wardens were lovely friendly and helpful. We ended up leaving later than the required exit time but as it was not busy it was fine with them. Would definitely recommend for a quiet peaceful break
Good location for London/Hertfordshire
We arrived in bad weather in February so were probably not seeing the site at it's best.
The positives were a very helpful and friendly welcome at Reception with advice on parking spots. Level pitch and not muddy given the weather. Very clean facilities.
The ambiance is what let the site down for us, with caravan storage next door , a lot of very large RVs and what appeared to be longer term residents rather than people stopping over on holiday or passing through.
An excellent site
This sight is a little gem and we have stored our caravans and motorhomes there since 1986. The wardens are exceptionally helpful and the cleanliness of the site and facilities are of a high standard.
For those who do not store their outfits but choose to stay will find its location to London easy with the station a bus ride away. In addition there are a host of local attractions and places of interest to visit in Hertfordshire, the street market and Abbey Cathedral in St Albans being one not to miss and Hatfield House and estate another.
