Conditions on site

The staff at this site are friendly and most helpful and kept the public areas and showers blocks in pristine condition, however the pitches we looked at and finally settled on were tired and in need of renovation as the hardstanding was bare resulting in muddy ground  The site is perfectly located for Coniston and several other prominent towns but unfortunately we would not return unless improvements were made

Excellent countryside site

Stayed August 2015. Staff very helpful and welcoming. They gave useful advice onlocal area, paths from the site etc.   the site covers a wide area, and the pitches are scattered around in clusters, not the regimented uniform pitches often found on CC sites.  A lot of pitches are sloping, so bring levelling wedges.   Some pitches are under trees, which is great for a bit of shade, but not good when it rains, and for several hours afterwards.   Toilet block was immaculately clean, and you neded a key which stopped kids playing in them, plenty of hot water in the showers. Only 10 mins drive from Coniston, 30 mins from Ambleside, Windermere. You can bike and walk from the site, but some of the paths are muddy, and not lit, so bring a big torch and don't wear your best shoes.  Pubs 15 mins walk away. Shop 20 mins walk, but small shop on site from 9 to 6 stocked all essentials. Fish and chip can comes to site several days per week in season.  Good site, will go back again.

Long weekend in the Lakes

This is the 4th time I have stayed here, the staff are helpful and friendly, the location is perfect for water sports, walking, exploring the lakes and visiting the local area. Site is immaculately clean and well maintained and both dog & family friendly. Pitches are not cramped and I love the privacy of the cul de sac type layout among the trees. Depending on which pitch you chose you might need rock pegs and a decent hammer but otherwise it gets my vote hands down as the best site I have visited in the UK yet hence why we keep coming back. It has a decent shop albeit small but all the essentials are in there if you forget anything, a mobile chippy van parks up at the site entrance 3 evenings a week and smells lovely when you get the waft of supper in the air. There is a pub within walking distance of the site and another one a very short drive away in Torver which does excellent food and has a huge beer garden to sit in. The Lake itself is only 10 minutes walk away and is lovely to swim in or walk along plus if you have dogs they love it. BBQ's are allowed so long as they are kept off the ground to avoid damage or fire hazard. Ideal for walking up the "old man of Coniston" and other fells that surround the area. The down side? none as far as the site is concerned but the access road from the south is twisty and narrow in places so take caution but the road from the north is even worse, you could be in serious trouble coming from that direction so worth the detour to change your approach if you have the option (or travel in the very small hours to avoid meeting anybody coming in the opposite direction). Access once on site itself is very good although some of the pitches in the lower sections of the site can get a bit damp when it has rained, I was very glad of 4 wheel drive when I stayed on a previous occasion. showers are good, hot and kept spotlessly clean. All in all thumbs up and we will be going back again for the second time this year in a few weeks once the schools have gone back. Highly recommended.

Good location

We stayed for a week, it was going to be two, but for some reason we really didn't like the feel of the site, nothing actually wrong with it, just not grassy enough for us to feel at home.

The location is excellent, benefiting from good access to footpaths, and car access to the lakes in general.

Between the site and the lake, there's a National Trust Campsite which you have access through if you want to launch a dingy or similar, but once you've take you stuff to the lakeside you do have to return your vehicle to the CC site immediately. Access isn't overly practical on peak B/H weekends, as the camp site can be very busy. Views across the lake from the NT site are quite stunning.

Facilities are very good, even with this huge site at full capacity, I don't recall waiting more than a couple of minutes for a shower.

There is wifi on site, though we found this poor and most of the time unusable ( however the wardens did report that there was a fault with our nearest antenna during our stay).

So , all in all, it's great, didn't suit us, but this must be a fantastic site for families who want to spend endless hours messing about at the side of the lake, I think it's a great site for kids, just not green enough for me!

Most Excellent

Although I only live a short distance away in Morecambe and I prefer small CLs, this is my site of choice for a quick break. Although quite a large site it's design means that wherever you pitch you feel you are in a much smaller site. Essentially a woodland site, the trees absorb any noise and you could almost feel you were alone, even when the site is full. Exemplary washing/toilet facilities, always within easy reach of a pitch, a short walk to Coniston Water where you can swim, canoe, dive, sail or just watch other people. Everyone is always friendly and the whole site exudes an air of relaxation.

First time caravanning - First Caravan club site

This was our first time out in our new caravan and our first time caravanning rather than camping, so our first time at a caravan club site. The site was fabulous and the wardens were very polite, jolly & helpful. A lovely setting amongst the trees, close to Coniston lake. The facilities were, I have to say, "First class". We will most certainly be returning.

Coniston Park

Only the 2nd Caravan Club park we have visted so don't have a lot to compare it to, the staff was exceptionally friendly and a pleasure to talk to, the site it's self is big but we felt everyone was close together, some of the spaces was a little tight to get in to. The shower blocks are immaculate, very clean and tidy. We did notice quite a bit of noise at night, we think it was coming from the camp site further down, kids screaming till 11pm+ TV was great as long as we only wanted to watch BBC, make sure you have a coax lead to get the rest of the channels, phone reception was ok, Internet not at all but the CC Internet worked fine. All in all a good place to stay especially if your in to outdoors activity as there is plenty to do, we just like to chill so didn't partake in the activities :)

Wouldn't go again

The site was very large and spacious but the large hills were hard to walk up. The toilets and showers were lovely and so clean. The children's play areas were mainly aimed at under 5's so my two boys did not have anywhere to play.  The pitches were not completely hard standing and quite muddy. My rating of this site would have been much higher if the warden hadn't been so rude to us! Our electric went off at some point during the day and our 12v battery had died too so we came home from tea out to there being no power so at 8:40 pm we went round to the warden to be greeted with.. That's not my problem and to leave it. We were very apologetic and asked what we should do. After being treated rather aggressively the warden came out turned the box on with a key and we got our electric back which we are paying for . I tried to thank him but was ignored and made to feel terrible . He was so so rude . It left a bitter taste in our mouth.
