First stay at this site

We arrived on site in brilliant sunshine to be greeted by Bev & Mel who we first met at Melrose at Xmas when we were staying at a hotel. It was really great to have such a warm welcome and they keep the site to a very high standard considering how busy they seem to be with arrivals. We had excellent weather for the 5 days we were there and almost felt as though we were on the continent with the clear blue sea on our doorstep.

Dunnet with a beach to die for

This is our second visit to Dunnet Bay the last being in May 2018. Arrived and were met by the temp site wardens as the resident wardens were taking a well earned break, and throughout the 14 day stay I can understand why they would need a break. On their return a few days after we arrived Mel & Bev the resident wardens returned. Over the 14days the site was very busy with the site being full every day. The majority of visitors to the site arrive during the allotted time period but there are a few who arrive whenever they like. Come on Caravan Club having two wardens on this site is not enough. It is for this reason at the end of the day that the gates are closed and a "site full" notice is erected after all the people who run this site for our benefit and enjoyment are entitled to their off duty period. Both did a great job to keep the site clean and tidy and I take my hat off to both of them for the time and effort they put into the job of being wardens I don't think I could do it and keep my cool at the same time. Members who visit the sight must take advantage of a short boat trip from John O Groats to The Orkney isles the sites and views are amazing. We both look forward to another visit in the future

Excellent site

The friendly and helpful wardens added to the pleasure of staying on this excellent site. The wonderful beach is a stones throw away. Shower room was modern and very clean. Arrival area is well signposted and there is plenty of room on each pitch. Would definitely recommend this site.

Dunnet Bay Beautiful

Stayed here May 2018 after a gap of 14yrs, great wardens, great weather and the site has improved in many ways. Dunnet Forest is a wonderful place to walk especially if you have a dog and its only across the road from the site. The only gripe was halfway through our stay a caravan parked not to the rule, which meant that the caravan doors were facing each other. Which meant that we lost a bit of privacy.

This is a fantastic site with great views of the bay and easy access to the site. It is a great area to visit and whilst we only had a short break we managed to take the ferry from John O Groats to Orkney on the organised trip. Whilst expensive this was very worth it and the driver (Stewart) was so knowlegable. I would also strongly recommend a visit to Dunnet Head for the amazing views. Whilst the wardens were on holiday the relief wardens were excellent. We will certainly make a return visit

Excellent site, friendly wardens. One of our favourite Club sites so far

We stayed at Dunnet Bay for 8 nights over the Easter holidays. The site was very well maintained by the lovely, friendly wardens. Nothing was too much trouble for them including helping us find an emergency dog groomer when our dog got too close to a dead seal on the beach!! The wardens were always friendly even when they were having to deal with malicious damage in the laundry room. The children and dogs had a fabulous time on the beach which is right behind the site. The site is grass pitch only and due to its location it can be prone to strong winds but it is the most idyllic site we’ve stayed on in all the years we have been caravanning. It is ideal for touring the north of Scotland, the Castle of Mey and the Orkneys. It was an ideal place to spend my big birthday, unwind and relax. We hope to return before to long. Thanks Mel & Bev.

A pity about the Male Warden

We stopped at this site for two nights and it was spoilt by the Male site Warden. We were given a warm welcome by the Lady booking us in but when we were walking around the site looking for a pitch as the lady suggested we encountered him. We had parked in the motorhome point to book in as we needed to use it and it left the entrance clear, there is no clear area marked for arrivals - only on the site details which you get after booking in? He asked us if we were parked there and for future reference don't do it again and to drive around the site to look for a pitch. We just carried on and decided if the Wardens cannot decide between them what to advise then we would ignore his protest and marked our pitch, filled up and forgot about it. He later on was waving madly at an arriving caravan for not parking in the unmarked arrival space trying to get him to circulate the site and ended up exactly where he started, and the Warden stamped off waving his arms! The following day we had returned to site and needed to fill up at the SP again and asked if we were booked in for using the SP because people were pulling in and just using the SP when not stopping on the site. He seems to think that shutting one gate with 'Site Full' on it is a good idea too meaning every van has to stop and open it to get in. It's a great pity that he didn't apply as much attention to the outfits that were not pitched correctly meaning the spacing was much less than is stated by the club for safety reasons.

WOW

We stayed here before catching a ferry to Orkney and liked it so much we stayed again when we got back! Its a small, but fantastic site in an incredible location. Facilities were spotless and the wardens were some of the friendliest we met on out Scotland tour. Well worth a visit but would recommend booking in advance!

One of the most relaxing weeks we have had

I have got to highly recommend this site and its wardens Steve and Mark. Not a big site but so clean and well looked after. Having 2 big dogs (Alaskan malamute and German Shepherd) the short walk to the beach was brilliant, and what a beach. OK it can be windy and a constant spray from the surf, but this is the far North of Scotland, what do you expect. If its raining, wait a minute. I feel I must address a couple of complaints, The road is busy, not by any standards. Even if it is on the North 500, there are far busier. No Internet, well I suggest you have picked not the wrong site but the wrong part of the country, 4G is very limited here. One small area to park when you arrive, there is a large car park at the entrance of the site. Please visit this site, and this part of the country. Probably shooting myself in the foot there as we intend to visit again and again. Lads keep it up, Absolutely brilliant. Still emptying the sand out of everywhere.
