Great place

Chose this site for its proximity to an event we were attending. I understood that there was no toilet/ shower block and as we have a large rig when nearing the site I was a little cautious of the distance from the A road along narrow lanes. However once on the site I was very impressed with the tranquil beauty, neatness and overall attractiveness of the location and site. The staff were only available for limited times, but appeared outside of their allotted work times when they note your arrival(thanks). Nice people! There was no wi-fi, however we had our own, reception was good. Satellite TV reception was a no go!!! It was a pleasure to visit and we would use again!!

Lovely site

Lovely site with probably the best secure dog walk we have encountered on the club site network. The diversion due to electrical works was interesting on arrival but had finished when we left. Thanks to helpful wardens

Nice site, but quite a jaunt from the motorway

We stayed at the beginning and end of a trip to the Hebrides. The site is well kept, and the wardens are helpful and friendly. However, if you are expecting it to be an easy overnight stop a short distance from the main roads, think again. There are road works on the access road, which will last 10 weeks if I recall correctly. It takes a minimum of 27 minutes (I timed it) to reach the site from the M6 junction. The roads to the site are narrow and poorly kept, with deep soft verges. Your van will get a good shaking! I'm a boisterous motorcaravaner, and happy to tackle such things - but many on site with caravans were complaining at how difficult the access is.

Fabulous site

We only stayed here for two nights on our way back home after a three week tour of the north. What a fabulous site, so clean and immaculately kept. Easy to get to from junc 40 of the M6 although the road is quite bumpy from the Cumwhitton turn off. Super dog walks and a forest next door. Settle to Carlisle railway line runs near to the site and occasional steam speacials can be seen on the embankment at the site entrance. This is how I like club sites, at £14 a night who needs a fancy toilet block. We'll be back I'm sure.

Just a stop off for us.

We used this site for one night only on our tour of Scotland. It was lovely, very quiet and the warden was very helpful as we hired a motor home (being caravan owners) everything was slightly different and she explained how things operated. The warden also helped when my cycle required the handlebars tightening providing tools needed. We would go back again especially if there were a toilet block.

A gem of a site

We loved this site. Although it was full and many people were coming just overnight it was so quiet and peaceful. The grounds were beautifully kept and yet we did not feel regimented in any way. We have two energetic dogs so were very impressed by the very large area fenced off for dogs to run in, very useful for first thing in the morning. The site is adjacent to Forestry Commission so there were plenty of longs walks as well. There are no onsite facilities so perhaps not the best site for families to stay for a holiday but it is quite close to Carlisle, Hadrian's Wall and the Solway Coast. The only problem, not the sites fault, were the roadworks that necessitated a detour to find the site. Please don't ignore the info on the website about the best route to take as the diversion signs sent us up a closed road and it was very hard work to turn around!

On the way to the Open Golf

Stopped her for 2 nights on our way to Royal Birkdale for the Open Golf. Had never visited this site before and as we were making our way down the M6 thought it would be a good stopover point. What a lovely peaceful place! The wardens were off for a week so 2 relief wardens were on duty. They were extremely pleasant and clued in to the area and gave us a few tips on where to go. 2 days was not nearly enough to do everything we would have liked so will definitely be back, probably before not too long. Had a good bike run to Armathwaite which is a lovely village not far from the site and a nice pint in Wetheral on the way back. We do enjoy the sites on the network without toilet blocks as we have all our own facilities. The site was extremely well kept but still had a lovely country feel to it. If you want a bit of peace and quiet this site is recommended.

Excellent!!

This was our first visit and it definitely will not be our last. Used the site as a base whilst walking Hadrian's Wall National Trail. Friendly and helpful wardens. Plenty of walking from the site. Some lovely pubs in the immediate area. Site well maintained - no facilities but we knew that when we booked!! Our only comment - the revised directions given by the club in relation to the ongoing roadworks at Wetherall are 'over the top'. They added at least 20 minutes to our journey (traveling from the north) and could have easily taken us down through Cotehill for a left turn at the cross roads.

Wonderful again!

We struggled to book online due to website maintenance last weekend but finally managed as we fancied a very last minute few days away. Booked Saturday to arrive Monday but had missed the site warning advice about local roadworks and diversion routes. Received however, a lovely unexpected phone call from the wardens on Sunday advising us of the roadworks issue and then explaining exactly how to reach the site via the diversions. We have visited the site on 2 previous occasions so had no problems with either the diversion or access to the site but I do want to mention that the wardens phone call was above and beyond customer service and over the week we have spoken to other site users that said the same. If the roadworks, which I may add is not the Caravan and Motorhome Club's fault are worrying anybody on booking or cancelling then this is not necessary, the diversion is perfectly fine what ever size unit you are driving, just as in any rural area, you take it steady. If you are not capable of taking your foot off the accelerator or do not know how wide your vehicle is then you should give rural sites a miss entirely rather than complain to the Wardens who really are trying there best to warn everyone and put them at ease about the diversion and actually it does have no affect on journey time and the alternative - normal route is much the same as the diversion in our opinion anyway. Onto the site itself, fabulous wardens, friendly and extremely approachable. The site is immaculate and pitches are of a high standard. No washroom facilities means we use our MH facilities, that's what they are there for and that's why the site fee's remain nominal. It also states on all literature that there are no washroom facilities so read the small print and you won't be disappointed. There are pitches in open area's and under tree's, plenty of room in between and also water and waste disposal points at well positioned points around the site. Will visit again, no negatives from us at all with the site and again, huge thanks to the Wardens working tirelessly to assist people with the roadworks diversions in the area and also keep a beautiful site in tip top condition. See you again soon hopefully.
