Just the Ticket

We used this site as a stopover on the way to & on our return from Scotland. It was ideal & we'd have been happy to linger longer. The site is set in beautiful woodland with ample walks from the site through woods and around lakes - perfect for dogs & humans. The nearby village is a 20 minute walk away & has a welcoming pub. Had we had more time, we'd have certainly walked down to the river & enjoyed wandering along its banks. The lack of a toilet block didn't affect us as always use the facilities in our motorhome. The site staff members were unfailingly helpful and welcoming.

What a lovely site

Stayed here for 2 nights on our way home to Scotland from touring the Lake District. The site is beautiful it’s surrounded by trees and rhododendron bushes the wardens work constantly on maintains the grounds and the results are stunning it’s so peaceful with red squirrel and birdsong. It’s a non facilities site but fine as we use our own. The dog walk has a lovely little fairy trail. We walked about 10 minutes from site to the river which has a lovely walk into nearby villages. Would definitely return

SPENDID VISIT TO ENGLETHWAITE HALL

No toilet block but not required. Site well set out. Reception looked a pretty picture with all the flowers outside. Staff very friendly and helpful. Useful little shop for essentials and ice-cream. Little cabin to swop books, DVDs etc. Don't have a dog but good dog walking from site. Pitches good size and all very neat and tidy. Location was good - we went cycling round Bowness-on-Solway and a long walk along the banks of the River Eden (overgrown in parts) to the 'well-heeled' village of Wetheral was very enjoyable (whole day took about 5.5 hours). We also walked from site to The Greyhound Inn at Cotehill (took about half an hour) for a pint!, which also serves food though we did not see it. A Spotted Woodpecker came to feed at the bird feeder near plot 28. Cannot fault the site at all. Would definitely visit again.

A delightful site

For us, it was a one night stop on our return from Scotland (which I gather from some reviews is common practice). What an absolutely delightful site! Our welcome was warm and it is immediately evident that the site managers take great pride in their site. It is the best presented we have visited so far! And the fairy glen demonstrated a real sense of fun too. If only more sites benefited from so much care and attention. A great spot for a peaceful break but also for some rest and recuperation, and a good walk with the dog during the break from our long journey.

Peaceful site away from it all

This has to be one of the best sites we’ve stayed at. The wardens were very friendly and the site was beautifully kept. Mobile phone signal was sparse but we got an ok tv signal. The site is very well laid out and has an excellent area for dog walking including an enclosed area where they can run free off the lead. I wouldn’t recommend this site to families with children as there is no play area and there isn’t much nearby. We cycled the quiet lanes on our bikes and really enjoyed the tranquility. This is a great site for a stop over up to Scotland. There is no toilet or shower block at this site which is why the price is very reasonable. I don’t understand people who book this site then complain in a site review about the lack of facilities. If you are self sufficient this site is a great one.

Perfect

Just spent five days at one of my favourite sites, its been over 12months since my last visit due to Covid rules and regulations but great to be back, It was the hottest week of the year but managed to stay cool by sitting under the trees and following the shade, the site was immaculate as always and the flowers on the reception very colourful and a joy to look at, staff ALWAYS pleasant and courteous and always ready for a quick chat, Thank you and again, great to be back.

Great site but need to work on customer care

This is a lovely site, no doubt about that. Yes they have no toilet or showers but that's fine as we were aware of it. It was peaceful the views are lovely and great dog walks esp the mushrooms and fairy doors. However, I became extremely poorly on the morning that we were due to leave. I had a migraine and sickness, now if you have ever had a migraine and sickness you understand just how awful these are. More so as the sickness triggered my atrial fibrillation so I was also trying to get my heart rate down. Especially in a hot motorhome. The husband was trying his best to keep me cool and hydrated whilst the kids entertained themselves and tried to stay quiet. My husband went to the office to explain whats occuring hoping we could stay a bit longer even if just until the next lot of visitors arrived. We were in a right pickle. Only to be told, you have one hour to get off the pitch. He explained about my heart, but it didn't seem to sink in. Finally it eased enough for us to leave. Another lady came and spoke to us and said that the they rung the person and they didn't realise they had booked tonight and we could stay. However she also quoted well you have outstayed your welcome on more than one occasion. This was at 3.45. my heart rate was still very raised although my migraine had subsided. I felt very lethargic and weak. But to hear those words outstayed your welcome made me feel like we didn't want to stay another night. There as no empathy or sympathy from either of those we spoke to. This wasn't planned, I couldn't avoid being this ill. We gave them ten pounds with thanks as we left but that didn't seem appreciated either. So needless to say we won't be back. We wouldn't want to ourstay out welcome again now would we?

Lovely campsite

We've been to Englethwaite Hall a few times as we enjoy the peaceful location. Great for walking the dog around the small lakes. This was a hot and sunny weekend so the shaded walk was very nice indeed. The site has always been very peaceful but unfortunately this time there was a family (s) with young children whose parents obviously decided it was okay for them to keep playing right outside our door, understandably driving our dog mad. We asked them four times if they would stop but with no effect. As they kept climbing over the fence, made from sticks, which the site have erected to obviously stop people cutting through this way, one actually caused some damage. Not the wardens fault at all but a shame that a site that seems set up for a peaceful getaway, certainly was not during our visit.

What a great site

We wanted a local site to finish off our walk along Hadrian's Wall and this site was in exactly the right place, just south of Carlisle. Very clean and tidy with level pitches. Really helpful wardens and managed to avoid squishing local hedgehog on both evenings. Colourful rhodadendron bushes in full flower were delightful. May be no shower block but more than adequate water/rubbish bin placement. Visited local Lannercost Priory for delicious lunch and afternoon walk. Carlisle Castle is also well worth a visit, very informative military museum. Really enjoyed a quiet respite from business of getting ready. Dave and Alison
