Please stop asking for facilities!!

Great site we need more of these on the network , please don't ask for facilities, the reason this and others like it are so pleasant and peaceful is because by their very nature they're basic , if you want a site with facilities please go elsewhere . Why book a no facility site and then moan about .

5th visit, cannot wait for the next!

We have just returned from our 5th visit to this site as we were due to go at Easter but Covid arrived and everything stopped. I have read several of the more recent reviews and there seems to be repeated comments about this site not having facilities. The comments aren't necessarily negative but I wonder when the website states that there are no facilities, this needs repeating on every review and also that surely the price paid per night during peak is so much less then a site with facilities, what do folk think they are paying for. We prefer the difference in price to pay for more nights away and wish there were more sites like this on the network. I might also add that some clientele are not always respectful with provided facilities and therefore during the current virus crisis, there is no way we would be using shared facilities with strangers. This site always has always provided us more over with the quiet down time needed and this visit although a lot busier then previous visits was no different. There was a host of electrical problems dealt with by the wardens and contractors as quickly as they could. The dog walks from site are endless and the doggy play paddock is a godsend. The grass cutting and hedge cutting was a little excessive, yes grass needs cutting to keep the site tidy looking but the hedges could have been seen to before opening up the site after lock down. I am also curious as to why glass is not recycled separately like plastics and paper etc and is just to be put in with general waste. I also think that sanitiser dispensers could be provided by the water / waste / refuge and elsan points. Yes, this is an extra cost and another job for the wardens but it would also promote personal responsibility to be covid alert and lesson the risk of surface spread. We have had a weekend jolly at a privately run site where this is done with no negative issues at all, in fact most patrons of that site welcomed it. My only real issue again and not just at Englethwaite but network wide is the need for drivers to have a lead foot on the gas pedal and speed around the sites. For some folk though, rules and regulations only apply to everyone else. If you need facilities, playgrounds, public transport, clubhouse, excellent mobile signal or a supermarket within a stones throw then this site is not for you. It will be 2021 sadly before we visit again but we will be back as this is our little haven less than 2 hours journey time from home with easy access and great friendly warden and at affordable prices.

Excellent stay!

Great location. Lovely staff. Spaced out. Could just do with some toilets but I guess you know that when you book.

Oasis of calm

Beautiful site, very well laid out with lots of space, and beautifully kept gardens. We had gone mainly for the fishing, which was a bit disappointing. there are 3 lakes within walking distance off the site, set in woodland and very pretty. there is only one fishing peg on the largest lake which is not ideal as it is set up high off the water, no way of getting a landing net to the fish. however we had a lovely afternoon sitting in the sunshine fishing. the club does not own these lakes but the permit is bought from the site office. we also had a long walk along the River Eden to see St Constantine's cells and another day walked along Hadrians Wall, both lovely walks and really interesting. it is a dog walkers paradise, with a really good dog walk from the site, plus you can walk off the site through the woods down to the river. we will definitely be visiting again. in fact we have already booked

Peaceful and beautifully laid out

Peaceful site in Eden Valley. Isobel & Joseph are perfect hosts. Beautifully laid out grounds, which is clearly a passion of the hard working gardener. If you like quiet, spacious and attractive sites, with friendly hosts, try out Englethwaite. Great walks in the adjacent plantation and down the Eden riverside to Armathwaite if you don't wish to move your motorhome. We will be back

A Quiet Gem, but only if you don't need shower or toilet.

If you like a quiet site set amid stunningly beautiful countryside, and are happy to use your own toilet and washroom, then this site is for you. It's not really the best of places to take kids, and some of the access is via single track roads, but for those who enjoy peace and walking Englethwaite Hall is for you. The site was attractive and immaculate, and the wardens and staff were a happy, friendly and helpful crew. In my small motorhome I was very comfortable connected up to fresh water and drainage on a serviced pitch, which made a lot of sense on this no facilities site. It was a first visit to the Eden Valley. It is truly well named: a little touch of Paradise in England. Beautiful, with walks nearby, including beside the Eden River. Already made a return booking....

This site suits us perfectly

This site suits us perfectly. It is well off the beaten track yet superbly convenient for the M6 / M74 / A6 / A7 / A66 / A69 with easy access roads. It is also centrally-located between the Lakes (Cumbria), North Pennines (County Durham) and Kielder Forest (Northumberland) as well as being right in the middle of the beautiful Eden Valley so a perfect base for touring. The site itself is magnificent – totally peaceful with open and wooded areas, an excellent layout and spacious level pitches. There is no toilet block but we prefer sites that don’t have one. There is also no play area or other children’s facilities and this is a real bonus as far as we are concerned (been there, done that, kids gone, don’t want noise, bikes, footballs etc)!! Wardens like on most Club sites – absolutely first class. However, on this occasion they went above and beyond by taking the trouble to phone us early on the day booked for our arrival to tell us about a critical road closure near the site and to give us an alternative access route. Brilliant! Nine glorious days on this visit and looking forward to more as soon as possible.

Excellent Site

A beautiful and quiet corner of Cumbria. A well maintained and managed site. Friendly and extremely helpful wardens, well done to them. Tremendous for dogs, with interesting walks and a 'playpark'.

Beautiful well kept site

Stopped here recently for 2 nights returning from our holiday in Scotland. The site is beautifully situated in the Eden valley. It is extremely well kept. The wardens were very friendly and knowledgeable about the surrounding area and the history of the site. The site is set in mature woodland and is mostly surrounded by trees so a lot of the pitches were in shade a fair amount of the time. Also there seemed to be a number of seasonal pitches in use which reduced the number of available pitches. As mentioned by other reviewers, there is no toilet block on site you need to use your own facilities The site is very peaceful as it is well off the road.
