Off the beaten track!

Arrived here on 3rd July for a 4 night stay on our return journey home to Surrey from Fort William. I can see why so many people only use it as a stopover due to the location of the motorway, but what a waste for just a stop over. The site is peaceful & well laid out, in what were the gardens of an old Hall. The majority of the pitches were very big with ample space for awning, car & still close enough to be sociable with your neighbours, all of which were lovely. Once again it was one of these sites where the site office is not open all day & you are requested to pop your membership card through the door, find your pitch & return to pay later. There is a dog walk which is fully fenced so your four legged friend doesn't wander off plus other walks straight from the site so furry paws are well catered for. Not far away is Lanercost Priory which is worth a visit plus there is a very nice tea room where the 'Bark 'n' Brew' makes all it's visitors very welcome. Hadrian's wall was just up the road so you can go off & pretend to be Caesar! Carlisle Castle was also just up the road & when we visited it was the last day that the Poppies were on display. It was an easy site to just sit, have a brew (or some other light refreshment!) & watch the world go by or read a book. Very peaceful. The wardens did have a cat Zorro which made regular appearances to the amusement of all the dogs. I enjoyed my short stay but am unsure whether there was sufficient activities in the immediate area to keep me occupied for a fortnight.
