Beware the roadside pitches.

We have kept our caravan in storage at this site for several years so we could just pitch it on site when we wanted a quiet weekend away. It used to be wonderfully quiet and one or more of the prime pitches was always available when we arrived. That has all changed now. The introduction of seasonal pitches has meant 8 of the 49 hard pitches are always in use by mainly empty caravans and others are 'fully serviced' at extra cost. This means the chances of getting one of the remaining hard pitches on arrival is much reduced and naturally the ones along the main road boundary are the last to go. We arrived at 1.00 pm recently and had to settle for one of these and it was as though were were camped in a lay-by on an 'A' road. If you are happy to go on a grass pitch it is great but if like us, you prefer to keep off the mud then you need to be at the gate at 12 noon or be prepared to make do and move. I have to say the wardens were very sympathetic but the situation is beyond their control as the ability for people to extend their stay online during office closed times means they don't know what pitches will be available for the day.
