A gem in the collection

Been here 7/8 times (from memory) and never been disappointed. Just returned from 11 nights there, Awesome scenic location and superb for those after a bit of peace and quiet. Martin and Ann run a tight ship with spotless facilities and manicured grass and flower beds - entrance is one of the best! Due to volumes it was allocated pitches when we arrived, not a pitch we'd normally select but site managers can only manage what they have available - it was perfectly adequate given size of van. This site suffers from one layout fault that needs to be rectified - the Mhome service point is in the walled area and that can lead to queues of motorhomes sitting waiting (often with engines running). Given its location you often need to wait for a service session to be completed before you can leave or reeenter. A second one needs placed in the main area. Only other complaint is that the wifi is a waste of time, constantly disconnecting or unavailable - essential as EE in the walled garden is virtually never available, missed a number of calls. Kids need to like the countryside/nature or the sea - there's nothing else there! Proof of the pudding is that we are back in mid August for another 10/12 nights

Tilly and Bonnie

Just back from another lovely week at Garlieston. The added bonus was brilliant ,warm weather. It really is a lovely wee site and the wardens Anne and Martin work hard to keep it like this. The flowers at entrance and reception are beautiful. I’ve read reviews on here that some people didn’t like the site, caravans too close and they felt claustrophobic. This is not the case at all. The pub sells lovely food, there is a wee shop for anything you need, and there are lovely walks. For a caravan holiday what more do you need. I know that we’ll be back .x

Excellent site in lovely location

We booked 5 nights at Garlieston in July. We had wanted a pitch with awning for 7 nights but it wasn't available. When we arrived the wardens were brilliant and were able to give us an awning pitch for 7 nights. The site is beautifully kept with lots of flowers and is within easy walking distance of the beach, harbour and pub which served good food. Site facilities were restricted because of Covid 19 safety measures and worked on a wrist band system. Even though this reduced the number of showers and loos we only had to queue on one occasion. Everything was very clean but the showers did have a tendancy to flood the changing area because of being on one level rather than a step down into the shower. That made it difficult to change in a dry area after showering. We had a pitch next to the village to harbour road and there was a bit of traffic for the harbour in the early hours but we didn't find it disruptive. The site is very well placed for touring the Whinns peninsulas and for the Galloway Forest and Stranraer.

Peacefull days

Another of our many visits to this lovely site, so clean and neat and tidy. Really well looked after, the harbour site so peaceful. Wardens are so friendly and helpful. The Harbour Inn is well worth a visit, food is fantastic. A very quiet village with relaxing atmosphere. Would really recommend a visit. Anne your floral displace is beautiful.

A little hidden gem

What a lovely site. Tucked away at the far end of the harbour it is split either side of the road with small immaculately clean facility blocks in both areas. Very quiet with only local traffic to some housing just past the site. A tidal harbour and the tide goes out a long way. Great for watching the birds feeding on the flats when it is out from your pitch if you are lucky enough to get a Seaview pitch. If not take one of the seats along the seafront. The beach is rocky and can become a little muddy the further you walk out. Best area at the far end of the village, a nice walk along as well. Pub good but you must book. Plenty of space between the pitches and not putting up a wind break made no difference as it is a very sheltered spot. Small local shop with restricted opening hours in walking distance in case you run out of anything. Lovely gardens within walking distance and of course coastal path if you don't want to drive. Lovely wardens very helpful. Would definitely visit this site again.

We love this site

Our first trip in our campervan, we were very impressed with the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. We were allocated a front row harbour pitch with views over the estuary. The tide disappears at low tide leaving exposed sand banks and mud flats which we found very interesting. facilities were cleaned and sterilised frequently, grass is kept immaculately. The drive over grey water drains were easy and sewage emptying was clean and efficient. Other campers were very friendly, many explored the area on bicycles. There were some nice walks along the coast. The local pub served nice meals and there is a small shop at the local garage. A popular little site. We’ll be back!

Fabulous

What a wonderful site, quite possibly my favourite ever. Lovely friendly, extremely helpful wardens. Walking, cycling and swimming on your doorstep. If you’re not worried about the sea view and want peace and quiet ask to be put in the walled garden. The nain site is a bit higgledey piggedldley, not your conventional layout at all. The tides here can be over 7 metres so its rare to see the sea at high tide. Consequently I wouldn’t worry about the view too much. Cycling is wonderful, quiet roads and not too hilly. Lots of lovely walks too. The sea was amazing , how many sites can you stroll back from a dip straight to the facilities and a hot shower Village pub pretty good too

A lovely site

We have recently stayed here for three nights and absolutely loved it. The site is clean and well maintained and the wardens were very friendly and helpful. The view over the water when the tide is in is spectacular especially with the backdrop of woods, hills and the colour-washed crescent of cottages in the village. The village pub is very nice and it is a very good area for walking and cycling. There are very limited facilities in the village - just the pub and a small shop- but if you want a quiet “get away from it all” holiday then I heartily recommend it.

Disappointing

Pitches were very close together (probably the bare legal minimum) but it felt claustrophobic. Not a lot of greenery/shrubs/trees on harbour area so it resembled a car park. Harbour view quite nice when tide in but most of time the tide was out & it resembled a mudflat. We didn't use the facilities but they seemed fine. Area quite good for walking/cycling. Galloway House Gardens well worth a visit. Also, a bit further afield, Galloway Forest Park great for walking/cycling & Logan Botanical Garden well worth a visit.
