Site invaded by travellers.

Yesterday evening (17 July 21), half a dozen travellers’ caravans arrived on the site. They drove rapidly around the site in the wrong direction and set up on a grassed area which does not have pitches. I was threatened by one of them when I asked if he was a club member. Several club members left the site later in the evening feeling unsafe. We stayed the night (surprisingly quiet) and left in the morning as we had planned. One of the traveller’s children told me that they had stayed here before. I feel let down by the club. If the site has been invaded before, why were barriers not installed? The club has a duty of care towards its members and failed in this instance. A single lady on the next pitch to ours felt she had to leave late in the evening because she felt unsafe. No support was provided to her by the wardens.

The people who arrived may well have been club members as has been the case at other sites. What is the club, or the warden, to do?

We were also on site and the "shock and awe" approach taken by the travellers who arrived late, clearly on purpose, spoilt the whole weekend. The numerous cars at speed on the site and grassed areas on arrival and for a while afterwards, one of which very nearly ran our dog over, ferrol children, all of them washing themselves  using the motorhome service point hose, throwing waste water and food onto the  grass rather than the bins and waste stations, shouting and the  language was unbelievable. I'm not easily shocked and am tolerant but the situation was not what we expect from a club site. Within 30 mins, the travellers had hooked  up and tripped the electrics. Had we not shared a bottle of wine with dinner, we would have left straight away, but felt totally trapped, and as others did, to put everything under lock and key and move the car as one travellers pitched up on the grass area next to our outfit ( which was not a pitch). Whilst packing up this morning, several loud phone calls between travellers explaining the route in  and "theres plenty of space here"  were heard. I assume by now the site is further overrun. If this has happened before as the previous comment, then it's deplorable that the club has not to taken steps to avoid repetition and support the very able, pleasant, but unsupported wardens.

I am sure These were not members they just charged in drove round the site at an alarming rate all over the grass and not on the road, no respect at all. Am sure they did not intend to pay.The warden tried to explain it was a club site for members only, also the site had a full compliment but they were not going to listen and the warden was hardly a match for half a dozen strong men who were looking for trouble. We were one of those they pitched up by and within 5 minutes children were running riot calling us racist spraying water from the water points and checking out the dustbins. They were advised the police had been called so the men promptly got in a car and drove off so the police could not move them on if the men were not there to drive. What they had not realised was there was no toilet block, asked some members if they could use their toilets! It was obvious hedges were going to be used. We certainly felt unsafe and though late packed up and left even though it meant not getting home to the early hours. As the site is really off the beaten track it was obvious they had done their research. To prevent this happening again strong security barriers need to be installed. Have to say the warden did do his best in impossible circumstances.

We arrived yesterday afternoon the 19th, they were still there can’t understand why we were not called by site in the  morning to inform us to allow us to decide what to do, they are on the phone quick enough at five past six on a Friday afternoon to see afternoon to see where you are !!

We we’re never gonna stay , I get annoyed enough at home and on the by ways cleaning up their mess.

We ended up going to an affiliate site about 40 minutes away , £161 for five nights, will be seeking the difference of of over £80 from the club or credits

Barriers are no deterrent, there are ways and means of circumnavigating them and entering sites if ‘folk’ are so inclined as witnessed on other sites. The club are not above the law and ‘legal’ evictions have protocols and can take days. Wardens I guess will be at the sharp end of this and live in possible constant ‘fear’ of this happening. The police are basically impotent too. Given the above what could the club do to resolve the situation in the best interests of all and in the most peaceful manner?
