Another lovely stay.

We have been using this site for a number of years, several times a year and love it. It has no facilities but it says that if you read about the site. Suits us especially this year with Covid 19. The wardens are lovely, hard working and friendly we have never seen the site so busy for only two wardens. We need to think this site had been left from September 19 until it opened in July 20 so It must have been in a state. The site is in the Devon countryside and in Devon we often have limited bus services, so if you have a MH and do not want to drive it and have no other transport this site may not be for you.

Great location and great staff

We have spent seven nights in this site. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the location is great to explore North Devon and Somerset (Dunster is less than an hour away). There are no tolilet blocks but a service point is never far away. It also has a dog area where the furry friends can run off lead, and a play area where the kids can do the same! :-) The weather wasn't the best, so we'll go back in a better occasion, and we'll go again to this site!

A site for a self contained... caravan/ Motorhome

Lovely site. Clean, friendly, good views. If you’re going to miss you’re toilet blocks and site shop...This site is not for you. So don’t complain when you get there. We will go back again and again. Thanks to the Leeches (site wardens), for being so friendly and helpful. Great local shop and a choice of beaches 10-15 mins away.

No facilities, but great site and fantastic location to explore

This site is based on "pay for what you get". Do not pay £14-£16 per night and expect a shower block and fancy toilets. There are no facilities on site which actually makes it quite nice, although the site is quite large. Everyone on site is self sufficient and there are plenty of waste areas located around site which are regularly checked and cleaned by the site wardens, whom I must say were extremely friendly throughout our visit. The site is located high up with fields all around and far enough from a main road not to have any traffic noise apart from the odd car/tractor going down the lane. The pitches around the road ways are quite level and therefore fairly easy to set up on, however if you end up on a pitch near the far end of the site if may not be so easy. Woolacombe, Ilfracombe are 10 minutes drive away, as is Braunton which has a large amount of places to eat and drink. For those which wish to explore a bit further, Croyde Bay (No dogs allowed on beach though) and Saunton Sands which is a fantastic beach and seems to be a bit quieter than others in the area are only 15-20 minutes drive. Lynton and Lynmouth is about 30 minutes drive away but well worth a visit along with the National Trust walks just round the corner from the village. We will definitively visit this site again and cannot grumble about any part of our stay.

Lovely quiet site

Lovely quiet site without toilet block/shower block. Wardens very friendly and helpful. Short walk down a steep country lane to pretty village of West Down. Several very nice beaches within a short drive. Site was almost full for one week stay but remained quiet and peaceful. Site as kept spotlessly clean and wardens could be seen disinfecting water, waste and rubbish areas regulary throughout the day. Would definitely visit again.

Delightful location and organisation

Having stayed on this site twice in the last 5 weeks, I can honestly say that it is a lovely experience. I feel that the negative reviews are not justified and don't reflect the enjoyable aspects of staying at this location. The pitches are well spaced out and the hard-working wardens allow you to choose any available pitch that takes your fancy. The views are spectacular (when it doesn't rain or become enveloped in mist!) and it is quiet and relaxing. Our first trip this year was when it opened on July 4th - the first caravan in at at 9.00am! and Sharon was so helpful and welcoming. She explained that during Lockdown the grass had gone wild: she was so disappointed that the grass cutter had cut the field and had not collected the clippings. Every morning we saw her and her husband trying valiantly to collect them. Yes, there is still some loose grass and in places it is slightly long but it is an outside field - it all adds to the 'away from it all' experience. Wellingtons are always required for the early morning dew and rainy days. The facilities are meticulously cleaned and sanitised on a regular basis - we felt very well looked after. The absence of toilet and shower blocks suits us because we want to keep contact to a minimum and don't want to take any unnecessary risks during this pandemic (we also want to help keep the tourist area free from any increased number of infections). We have met some lovely people while fetching water and emptying waste - the majority of folk are quiet and thoughtful: indeed, we slept like babies because it was so quiet. All in all, This CC site is exceptionally well looked after by friendly, helpful wardens. Looking forward to our next visit in September. You won't be disappointed...

Gone downhill

Visited in early August. This was our 5th time staying here and was quite disappointed this time around. Previous stays have been quite good and the site was well looked after, not so this time. We love the area plenty of places to visit, warden was friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately the site has not been looked after as well as previous visits. The grass was quite long and the pitches were quite uneven. I thought there were too many pup tents outside caravans one even had 3 tents, a gazeebo and an awning. Opposite us were a large group of 4 or 5 caravans and every night they all met up in one awning. Most nights they kept us up until after midnight. Also some people think the dogs on lead rule doesn't apply to them. Overall disappointing and would look to stay elsewhere if visiting the area again.

Will not be visiting again

Visited in MH. Relief wardens on duty who had little information about the area. Site info indicated bus stop adjacent but there was only 1 bus a day to Barnstable. No service to Ilfracombe or Woolacombe. Tried to walk but when we reached the main road this was very busy with heavy traffic and no footpath so not safe to walk to town. Returned and drove into Ilfracombe but could not find parking with MH other than some way out. Stayed 1 night although booked for 3. Very windy site. Grass and pitches unkempt. Struggled with with hook up as did our neighbour. Wardens did not assist when I asked for help. Very disappointed and wound not recommend for MH users.

First Visit

First visit to this site, nice clean reception area. Staff very nice and professional. There are no facilities on this site. The location of the site gives easy access to the North Devon coast line. Good mixture of caravans and Motorhome on site. Large dog walking area if you own a dog, shame some dog owners did not pick up their dogs waste. The weather during my stay was warm but there seems to be a constant wind blowing across the site. Maybe that’s why there are rather large windmills not far from the site. The last mile to the site entrance is very narrow road.

Could of been better!!

Just returned from 2 weeks on the site and would like to leave an honest review of how we found it. The positive points first: Site is easy to find provided you follow their directions otherwise sat navs want to take you down typical Devon single track lanes. Largish site split into 2 areas. The site sits very high hence why it is surrounded by windmills, but this also means that you can get very high winds. On nice days the views are very special and far reaching. When the weather closes in you have very limited visibility but go into Woolacombe and it is completely different weather. Good size pitches a lot of which are on the level. Big dog field where they can run off lead. Friendly wardens. Brilliant location within reach of Ilfracombe, Woolacombe, Croyde and many other lovely places. Within 30 mins there is a lot to see. Good size Tesco within easy 10 min drive and local community shop for quick essentials although beware they close at 4.30. Good size recreation field if you have children. Now for the negative points: Upon arrival it was raining, not a good start but hey ho its a typical British summer, I can't hold that against the site. What I can complain about though is the state of the grass. The site had obviously been mothballed at the beginning of lockdown and although the C&MC were eager to get you to book they were obviously not so eager to get their pitches into a good condition prior to anyone turning up. The grass had obviously been very long (3ft according to a local) and had been cut and left, there were huge clods of cut grass everywhere that stuck to your shoes and got into your awnings, caravans and cars alike. It was like pitching your awning on straw stubble. Just replenishing your services involved getting your feet wet through, I eventually went and bought a pair of short wellies. The smell of rotting grass under your awning was most unpleasant. There was no attempt to cut our pitch while we were there although new people got theirs cut! The site is also very windy at times and storm straps were essential. The dog field although large was initially awful as the grass was so long but over time traffic trod it down to almost acceptable. Some people may also be concerned that there is no security barrier so anyone can drive onto site.
