We stayed at this site for a week in mid April, this was one of the cleanest sites I have ever been. The staff clearly love what they do and work hard to keep it spot less, from the service points to the facilities completely spotless.
The staff are warm and welcoming and will have a chat and laugh with you but also leave you alone to enjoy your holiday.
The dog exercise area is huge, and secure our beagle had great fun running around and I wasn’t worried, nice to see the kids play area completely away from caravans and a big field to encourage ball games away from pitches.
The premium WiFi is one of the best, our tv signal was 0 however the WiFi for a week £15 was fantastic and meant that we could stream. Clearly other sites need to take note.
Just be careful on the approach do NOT listen to a domestic car sat nav, avoid going down to Sainsbury’s as a sat nav will take you, the roads are not suitable for a car/caravan or Motorhome. Unless you want to have to change your underwear on arrival. See the approach instructions prior.
Other sites take note and learn from this site. All I can say is thank you to the staff for making the site a haven.
Disappointing dog exercise field, would not visit again.
Nothing wrong with the site or the management. However we only book sites with an off lead secure dog field and this was supposed to have one. The dog field was lovely and big other than the damaged fence right next to a busy main road that even a small dog could jump over. We were too nervous about letting our dogs run around the field so this really spoilt the holiday for us as we have large dogs that need to run around. We would not return again for this reason. Be aware of this if you visit with dogs.
Home from home
After staying on the nearby club site at steamer key for the last 15 years before they decided they didn’t want caravans there anymore as they wanted to concentrate on motorhomes, they shut the site completely in September 2022 leaving members no choice but to look elsewhere, as we love the area, we decided to give Ramslade a chance,,what a site?! Amazing, we were made welcome by all the staff as soon as we arrived, the pitches are huge, the facilities are immaculate, the children’s play area and the huge dog walking area (for those of us who have neither children or dogs) are well away from the camping area so site is very peaceful, a two hourly bus service runs during the day from Stoke Gabriel to Paignton, which is ideal,, the approach road to the site is a little bit tight in places but is easy enough to negotiate with a little bit of care. Best of all, there is lots of friendly caravaners there, and you can put your awnings up!!
Bye bye Steamer Quay (we will sorely miss Kevin and Marianne though😢)
fantastic time
Stayed at Ramslade for two weeks in September and had a fantastic time as it was so quiet and the staff were absolutely brilliant as answering every question I had including a nice beach locally and where to go for Sunday lunch when my daughter came to visit.I believe in my 25 years as a member this is one of my favorite sites even though we had a very long and noisy thunderstorm in the middle of my stay
Lovely staff that really made it
We had a great couple of days at Ramslade - the dog walking area was excellent, the pitch was great. I would have preferred a 'hidden' chemical toilet point as it is a bit gross seeing them being emptied from your camping spot.
There isnt a pub in walking distance. But the best part of it was the staff who were so lovely and couldnt do enough for us.Thank you so much!
Great site with lots to do
First time caravanner, chose the site for its facilities and spacious layout. Found it exactly as advertised, efficient and modern checkin and automatic gates. Excellent toilets and showers, loads of space for the car and caravan/awning. Dog exercise areas, wildlife plentiful and well kept grassy spaces. Children’s playground and internet. Couldn’t fault it.
Lovely stay at Ramslade
We have just returned home from an amazing holiday in Devon, 6 of us (myself, my partner and our 4 children aged 1-7) stayed at Ramslade caravan club site which was perfect.
The site is well maintained and clean, we had a warm welcome at reception and all staff we met were extremely friendly and helpful.
The toilets were spotless throughout the day with facilities for all of us including baby washroom.
The site was lovely and quiet with a little park and big field for the kids to play on.
The site is located within close driving distance to towns such as Paignton, Torquay.
They have food vans visit on site, we had wood fired pizza which was spot on.
We will definitely stay again and would recommend to anyone wanting a quieter site without all the arcade/clubs.
Ross, Emma and kids.
A gem on the network but getting more expensive
This is an excellent site. Take care to check manual for directions and not follow sat nav. You do need to negotiate a devon lane which is narrow in places but not very difficult.. Lots to fill your day on the beach (Broadands) on the headland ( Berry Head) or one of the two heritage railwsys. Dartmoor within easy reach. Picnic by the stream at Belever Woods on the moor.
Dodgy lane
Just spent a really enjoyable 10 days at ramslade. Review a bit late as could not get onto review page until help from agent. We were there when all the thunderstorms were trying to spoil our holiday but it didnt work. Staff were very friendly except the booking in stage where just like a previous review we were met by a very grumpy reception. Alot of empty pitches but maybe the weather didnt help.
Our only problem was the long narrow lane to the site over a mile with alot of oncoming traffic. On leaving the site with caravan in tow at about 10.40 we were met by a motorhome towing a car who refused to move . He was going to another campsite which allowed them to book in at 11.00. Traffic started to build up and it was a very unpleasant experience.
Maybe some negotiations with the other campsites along this lane would be a good idea
Depends on what you want from site...
As others have said follow instructions from manual into site but yes that approach road is awful...bad enough when driving out from site but with caravan attached just take it steady in case of traffic coming in opposite direction.
Arrived at site (on time) to an almost frosty reception - no welcome, no smiles, no how was your journey etc - found out from fellow caravaner that they are actually the site managers ! Think they need a course on customer service....
The other site wardens and support team there are lovely - very friendly and helpful.
That said the site is almost in two halves both with clean well looked after facilities. The pitches are reasonably level and of decent size ( some seasonal grassy ones looked a bit odd )
There is a large playing field for children with climbing frames etc (not got kids )Dog field is of good size for site but that's it.
You can walk into Stoke Gabriel but some is on the road and those less mobile shall we say might find the inclines in parts a bit steep. The village is pretty (in the sunshine) only has postoffice/shop, a pub or two and small restaurant (open at set times/days)Church & small craft style shop - you can access the Riverside Shack for refreshments at the estuary but after that there is not much else. Was told you could walk to Totnes (didn't try it but good luck!)
Weather wasn't that brilliant so only went out couple of days - Brixham - lovely fishing Harbour - walked to Berry Head to Old Fort - beautiful views & Dolphins, also cafe for refreshments there. Fab fish & chip shop (can"t remember name)but have restaurant upstairs & will allow dogs in :)
Used park & ride to visit Dartmouth - lovely place, walk to castle is worth it very interesting, variety of shops & eateries. Good day out. You can catch a bus outside site entrance to different places but did not use.
To exit the site is from a different gate - again beware of speeding locals. A nearby farm building does hold "raves" or parties on occasions and the sound does drift down - it was quiet by 11.00pm that night.
In all lovely site, but not for us as not enough dog friendly walks from site and although both experienced drivers & caravaners the access road puts us off as we come for relaxation not driving with your eyes on stalks.
