Wow, what a site? What a setting? Tranquil, peaceful, restful, relaxing. We stayed here for the last nights of our northeast tour. Talk about save the best til last. We were greeted by name by the lady warden, a fellow Essex girl! We joked and said we must be the last due in and she said no she'd checked our vehicle registration and looked up our booking - customer service at its best. She told us they'd reserved us a pitch, our expressions must have given something away, as she hastily explained that it was a lovely pitch but had a electric issue, we would have electric. Her husband had supplied a lead from a distant bollard and ensured there was no trip hazard by burying it under the nearby gravel path and trialled it along the hedge for us to connect up to it in the usual way. It was a good pitch too. She explained that we were the last arrival of the short stays, the later ones were staying for longer and the electrician couldn't come til Monday and we left Sunday so no-one would be inconvenienced by the electrician. What great fore thought by the warden. I wondered what others thought when we arrived and moved the cone just as the warden arrived?! The pitches are separated out into groups and there was plenty of space between those opposite. There is direct access from the site to the nature walk with lakes, pond, river and bird hides. We saw an adder, there is a chalk board for members to list their sitings, including an otter and the location, alas we didn't see one or a kingfisher. Not that that detracted from the wonderful wildlife we did see. The facilities block is large and well laid out, although entry to the ladies was met with a blank wall and turning the corner lead to shower and privacy cubicles, so it was hunt the toilet on the first visit! the motorhome point was really sensible with two drains so whichever side your drain was it was easy to locate the 'van. It was in a layby which meant that you could pull off of the access road - unless there is a car parked in the middle of it as happened when we went to use it; sorry if you were inconvenienced and couldn't understand why the motorhome hadn't used the layby sensibly! The driver returned to the vehicle and squeezed his way through the gap (think Harry Potter and the night bus). It's somewhere that is definitely on our return to list, it's just a shame it's not closer to home for us as we'd be regulars.
