Super site on the Isle of Wight.

This is a lovely site which is beautifully maintained. Having read some negative reviews I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was very quiet and peaceful. The staff were very friendly and helpful. There is a nice dog walking area where you can let your dog off the lead and 2 dog areas for a doggie toilet stop. We had no problems with access to the toilet block. When I used the facilities, there was never anyone else there. The whole thing felt very Covid safe. It is less than 10 minutes walk to The Pointer Inn which does very good food. You will have to book as it tends to get quite busy. The site is well situated for exploring this very lovely Island. We really enjoyed our visit to Osborne House and the drive from Ventnor to Freshwater is stunning. Thank you Southland for a lovely stay, we will be back.

Another lovely time at Southland

We have been staying here for the last 11 years , sometimes twice a year as we have family living on the lovely Isle of Wight. During this time we have found this site to be spotlessly clean , the shower block tidy and plenty of hot water. Martin and Janet do a fantastic job of running this site and will be a very hard act to follow when they move on at the end of this season. We would like to thank them both for all their help over the years and for being there for their guests . The site has many large trees and bushes and is maintained in an excellent condition by carefully ensuring that the grass is cut regularly and the trees and bushes maintained in shape. We will be very sorry to see you go and wish you the best of luck with your new site. I am sure we will meet agin. Michael and Jill and Webley Allam

A well-run site

Just returned from a 10 day stay at Southland. The site wardens are all very welcoming, helpful and enthusiastic - which is no mean feat in these challenging Covid19 times. The grounds and facilities are well maintained but this does lead to a lot of activity during the day involving mini-tractors and ground maintenance equipment. I would suggest that it is probably a good idea to plan a full day’s activity off site if you are likely to find the noise disturbing. WC/shower blocks were kept clean and felt safe to use. Personally, we found the system of bands in Milton solution worked reasonably well except when users forgot to return them to the bin after visiting the facilities. The restriction on the number of users to 6 at any one time felt a little too strict but I appreciate that the Club and its resident staff need to exercise caution and manage risks as they feel appropriate. I would very happily recommend a stay here.

Not as good as before

We have stayed here many times and always enjoyed our stay, however this was an exception. We were parked next to one of the wardens and they seemed to have family staying with them who were very noisy until late at night, I understand the reason for the noise, but.... The wristband system did not work, many a time there were wristbands in the bucket, but no one in the toilets, also didn't like having to submerse my hand in the bucket, the wristbands on hooks used by other club sites is a better option. Also, cannot understand why some of the toilets and sinks are not in use due to Covid, when other business with smaller toilet blocks are able to keep them open, the risk is surely higher if we are all using the one sink? We are all aware and able to social distance as we have been doing this for months now

Stay here ruined by relentless Tractor engine noise.

If you want some peace and quiet then don’t come here. All day long, non stop, they drive round and round and round on incredibly noisy polluting tractor mowers. There really isn’t a quiet moment in the day. When they go past your whole unit vibrates and this goes on and on and on all day. How our Club is allowing this beggars belief. They cut the grass every day to a millimetre of its life which is probably why so many pitches are bare. As well as the constant tractor noise they have ear splitting leaf blowers and hedge trimmers. Making the site look nice is pointless if members can’t sit outside and enjoy it. I certainly won’t be back.

Once again fabulous .

Just returned from another fabulous stay. Can't recommend Martin and the wardens enough for there hard work & determination to keep things safe during this very testing time . Every aspect of the site is kept spotlessly clean , grass ,hedges , toilets, laundry, etc . Been visiting this site for a long time ,as we love the island & will defo return, wouldn't stay any were else . I don't normally criticise this site , but do to covid I would like to share my thoughts , I understand the importance of H/S however, 9 showers ,3 open ,6 toilets 3 open , urinals closed ,so have to use toilets for just a wee . Do think there could have been a little more thought in this area . Still has to be one of the best sites on the net work though.

The Wardens did well

I would like to praise the wardens for doing so much to make our stay as normal as possible in the Covid 19 period. They are after all front line workers in cleaning and servicing the customers and their facilities. The washrooms and washing up facilities were much reduced to allow for social distancing. I felt that they were a bit too restricted and had possibly been over reduced. For example, there was only one washing up sink available. Queues appeared at various times for all facilities even with people trying to use their own onboard as much as possible. Overall a lot of give and take was required but the result was that we had a very enjoyable stay, so many thanks to the wardens and stay safe.

Weeks Holiday

We have stayed at Southlands on a number of times and really enjoy our stays. Greeted in a friendly and efficient way and given instructions on the new covid measures. At all times we felt secure and were happy with the band system for using the toilet and shower facilities. The site is in an ideal place to get around the island with lots to do. We were in the area whcih had the hard standings which some people thought it was okay to travel at speed, even though it was pointed out to us on arrival to stick to the speed limit.

Excellent site

Stayed at Southland Caravan Site for 5 nights from 9th September - 2 adults and a dog. Wardens very friendly and were happy to help when we had a snag with our electric hook-up - we now know to insert cable and twist! Facilities were spotless and the extra restrictions in place worked well. Only very small criticism is regarding dog walk as it is quite small especially as our dog loves to run free and chase a ball. We had to take him off site in our campervan everyday to find a place to walk him - no shortage of places for this on the lovely Isle of Wight. On the whole enjoyed our stay and would recommend to anyone wanting a quiet base from which to explore the Island.

Lovely site, beaches not close by

We stayed here for a week and had a great time. We walked and cycled from the site. We used the buses (free travel with English bus pass after 9.30) to go to the Needles and to Ryde. Bus journeys were quite lengthy but these were good days out. The Red Squirrel cycle trail was nearby but the loop from Shanklin is mainly off road and not very suitable for road bikes. There is a steep hill to climb in Newchurch! The two nearest pubs both served great food and welcomed dogs. The Pedallers cafe, and the Garlic farm, both within walking distance, also had great food and were very popular. The pitches were of varied sizes, some people did not have their awnings on the correct side and nobody seemed to bother about this. We were not impressed when a couple set up with their awning facing ours. Other people seemed to grab a lot of space for themselves with massive beach screens in addition to their awning. I have never seen this happening at any other club site. In fact, I have seen wardens being very strict elsewhere. The wardens were doing a great job clearing the paths and re- seeding the dry patches where ground sheets had been. They were very welcoming and pleasant. The dog walk was the best I have experienced at any Caravan club site. Our only grumble was that there was no local shop for basics and nothing available at the site due to covid restrictions.
