Location location location

We were ideally looking for a site close to Rutland Water, but finding no suitable sites with vacancies we opted for Stamford & took advantage of the mid week offer. It was our first visit to the site and area, the weather was a bonus but the location was perfect for our needs. Rutland Water is any easy journey and particularly scenic if you take the B roads. Uppingham and Stamford are worth a visit as are the numerous picturesque villages close by. We will return as there s more we want to explore around the area. Our only negative point, and it is not unique to this site, is the number of visitors with numerous yappy dogs. I am a dog owner but I believe it is time for the CMC to start charging more for 2 or more dogs if only to cover the cost of emptying the waste bins.

A lovely site

We are familiar with the area, having been many times to walk in Fineshade Woods and visit the cafe, but we acquired a caravan only recently and this was our first night out! It was lovely. The manager, Sharon, couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. Facilities are fine and the lack of showers and toilets didn't cause any problems. We walked through the woods to the Royal Oak pub for dinner - a bit dark and scary but enjoyable. It's great having the cafe just next to the site and you can hire bikes if you want to. We'll certainly be going back.

Always a favourite site

Stamford has always been a favourite site for us,it has a good variety of pitches either sun/shade grass or hard standing plenty of walks and great for dogs . It would be a good idea in this day and age if there was more security here i.e barriers or cctv at the reception area as there doesn't appear to be anything of that nature- just an open gate. Wardens have a hard time trying to prevent people driving around this site too fast as with many other caravan club sites I think zero tolerance would be the only way . The worst offender was a late arrival after dark towing a caravan at a stupid speed after finding a pitch and then racing around the site to make sure nobody else got it ??????

Dog heaven.

Lovely welcome when we arrived, both sets of wardens very helpful. Site nice and clean. Couldn't ask for anything better for dog's, for the walks alone and for us. Great pub for eating and dog friendly was the Collyweston slater, very nice. Also nice walk from site to the village of Kings Cliffe, to the cross keys dog friendly as well. Peace and quiet, and didn't matter not having a signal. Fabulous 11 days away.

Excellent location for walking and cycling

Our first visit to this site and we will certainly return. Well maintained and run by the managers who are helpful and welcoming. Pitches are good size and the surroundings are excellent. You are in a woodland site with miles of wide flat trails for walking or cycling. You can hire cycles nearby where there is also a cafe for snacks and drinks. The trails are waymarked for directions and distances with a children’s orienteering to seek the “gruffolo”. You can walk directly offsite with no need for the car. Walk to the nearby village by trails to the “Cross Keys” pub which serves good food in pleasant surroundings. Plenty of English Heritage and NT places to visit also nearby are Stamford and Corby should you wish. We are happy to recommend this site to other members.

A lovely peaceful site.

A lovely site that is very peaceful. A well laid out site that was very clean and well maintained. No toilet block but we will definitely stay here again. The woods adjacent to the site are perfect for dog walking.

A lovely site

First time for us at this site in early July and very impressed. Having a cat that uses our shower cubical for her bits and pieces and enclosed dirt box means a great deal of moving around to use the shower, but well worth it to be able to stay on this site. First impression was 'wow', what a great looking site, lots of different types of pitches and even trees for shade. Arriving at lunchtime meant a great many members sitting out in their chairs enjoying the good weather. With lots of space around the pitches members were able to sit under the shade of the trees, moving around when the sun did too. Wardens were extremely friendly especially working in their very hot reception, don't think their air-conditioning was working too well! Having the Forestry Commission buildings next door meant a great lunch, can highly recommend the baked potato (a choice of toppings) with salad, also their coffee and hot chocolate, followed by a walk in the forest. Will certainly be back.

Wildlife

What a gem of a site. We wanted a site for a long weekend & decide this site fitted the bill. We chose a grass pitch near the Bug hotel. Although there are no facilities on the site itself its right next to Top lodge at Fineshades woods which has a cafe, toilets, bike hire, play park & biking & walking trails. Even though it was a busy weekend at Fineshades wood the site was very peaceful. On my bike ride I saw a deer & we had Red Kites flying over the van the whole weekend. We enjoyed it so much I dared to ask the wardens if we could delay our departure. I have to say what a wonderful couple they were so polite, chatty & helpful. We all enjoyed our visit so much we decided that this would be a serious contender for our next long weekend away.

Great site

We returned to this site after a number of years. The site looks great we pulled onto the site and relaxed immediately. The wardens were always approachable, hard working and very friendly keeping the site very tidy and clean. The central wildlife areas were very well attended to which encouraged birds, squirrels and rabbits which were fun to watch. Being next to Fineshades wood it is ideal for dog walks and a fun place for children to be in the great outdoors. Our 8 day break was so relaxing and enjoyable on this marvellous site we will be back soon! Thank you Alan and Tricia
