Fantastic Site.

This is an excellent site. Lack of electric hook up isn’t an issue as far as I’m concerned. It’s more than compensated for by the superb location a short, level walk into quirky and lovely Totnes and the adjacent steamer quay with cafe, boat trips to Dartmouth and bus services to Torbay. The wardens keep the site immaculate, tending to the abundant flowers including some produce which you’re welcome to help yourself to! The information boards showing daily ‘what’s on’ events, local weather and thought for the day are evidence of the care and enthusiasm of staff at this site. As others have commented the facilities aren’t the best you’ll find on CC sites, but they’re perfectly adequate and are well serviced and very clean. There is a well stocked local shop nearby and Morrisons is about a 10 mins walk. The independent shops in Totnes are superb as are the cafes and pubs. We took the river side walk to the craft shops at Dartington and then onward to Dartington Hall, about 5 or 6 mile round trip - highly recommended and good way to enjoy Devon without the crowds. The 90 minute boat trip to Dartmouth is also recommended. This is has to be one of my favourite CC clubs sites

A rare and welcome town site

I don't write many reviews as Club sites are all much the same, especially those with numerous hard standing, which too often tend to resemble car-parks. Steamer Quay is always good to return to and the lack of electricity makes it possible for those of us who don't wish to book months ahead to get in, even in high summer. This we've just done - arriving Tuesday and leaving on Friday. One trip to Torquay by bus, another to Dartmouth by bus, returning by boat provided a wonderful mid-week break for us. The nearness of Totnes town centre is a superb bonus and it's a shame that the Club has so few such sites. It's all very well being out in the countryside, but that generally means no services and little chance of a bus stop nearby (The 'within 1 mile' indicated for some sites is a uselessly vague piece of information if you're unable to walk very far.) The wardens were helpful and attentive, keeping the site looking good.

A Hidden Gem

You would not know this site was right in Totnes it is so discrete. Perfect to explore the town and local area, you can use public transport and leave you vehicle here throughout your stay. The Round Robin steamer and open topped bus are so much fun and the local pubs offer great choice and excellent food. Gary and Helen are lovely wardens and their care and attention to running a neat and well organised site shines through. Thank you both, the grounds, showers and loos are immaculate. The summer flowers are lovely to see. A touch noisy sometimes with seagulls in the morning and locals in the evening, but it is in a town and near the seaside, so you have to accept that is part of the character, would not be enough to bother you in a van (we sleep in an upstairs pop up so have canvas walls). We also take a little chap with us who is two now, and find there is enough nearby for him to explore and play on (the council have done a good job with play areas) and the chance to go on a boat or a steam train means he has lots of fun too. This is the third year we have stayed, the site is consistently excellent and we hope to make it four, five and six years if we can. Thank you wardens we appreciate it.

STEAMER QUAY IS GOOD

Steamer Quay is a nice well positioned site and is perfect for motor-homers as there are plenty of options not requiring you to take vehicle off site. The facilities are limited and a little out dated, but were kept clean at all times, the wardens were friendly and helpful and pitches although grass were flat and firm. There are no hookups on site, and although this is not a major problem for most people, it would be helpful if there were a couple of standard plug sockets in the toilet blocks, this would enable campers to use a decent hairdryer or such if need be, as caravan club hairdryers are not that good. It is an easy walk into the interesting little town, its a nice town and well worth exploring with its little narrow streets, the local museum in the town centre, although not big, has free entry and is very interesting. There are numerous shops and also a major supermarket all within easy walking distance as is the quay if you want to do a River Dart boat cruise, also a good day out is the round robin, taking in the river cruise, steam train and bus. If you wish to explore further the local bus is only a short walk away and goes to Paignton, Torquay and the surrounding area. All in all this is a great little site for a short break would definitely make a return visit in the future.

Ideal Location

This is a lovely site in a great location, close to the town and local amenities. The bus stop is 5 minutes walk away, you can get to the coast - Torquay, Paignton, Plymouth or Dartmouth. The river is by the site for a lovely stroll or river trip. The staff on site were amazing, nothing was too much trouble, they keep the site spotless and work tirelessly. They have planted herbs and vegetables for anyone to take, what a super idea, especially as they are so busy. The toilet/shower block is old but is kept clean and works well, there are only 2 showers but I only had to wait on one of the 5 days we were there. There is no electricity on the site but that did not present any problems. WELL DONE we thoroughly enjoyed our stay on your lovely site.

Brilliant Site

As a first time motorhomer, my review may not reflect as accurately as some more experienced reviewers, as we have nothing to compare it with.

First of all, knowing there was no electricity when we booked, we were prepared for the site to be a bit dated, but did not find this a problem at all. The showers and loos were immaculate and even though the site was full, there was never a wait. The area for washing dishes was great, two draining boards and lots of hot water. The actual pitch was plenty big enough to have privacy and also be able to spread out a bit.  We didn't use the waste or water facilities so can't comment.

The location is superb, 5 minutes walk from the lovely town of Totnes, 5 minutes walk from a good Morrisons and 2 minutes from a riverside walk. Most of the time it was very peaceful, except for some exceptionally noisy kids playing nearby, but that was usually just an hour or two in the early evening. After 10 it was completely quiet.

The wardens and staff were all really friendly and helpful and really nice to our dog, which always makes a big difference. If you're travelling with your dog, Totnes is a very dog-friendly town, with lots of cafes and restaurants who are welcoming with a nice cold bowl of water for the pooch.

There is a great trip called Round Robin, which is a riverboat trip to Dartmouth, followed by a train trip to Paignton, and a bus trip back to Totnes.  You need to allow all day for it. Its very relaxing and different.

We will definitely be back for another stay.

Superb Riverside Location

One of the best located sites on the whole network with an easy walk into town. Well maintained by the hardest working wardens we have seen in a long time who are also friendly and approachable. Also good for transport connections to many other locations. We will be back next year only wish we lived closer and could visit more often.

Central location for visiting Totnes, Darmouth, Execter and so on and friendly wardens

An urban site. No dogwalk at the site but along the river ater 10 minute walk you reach a big grass area. A very short walk to reach pubs, a big supermarket, other shops, and Totnes castle. Nearby central station (no noise of that). And only a few steps from the boot to/from Dartmouth, a must see town. Ideal for those who do not want to use their own vehicle for exploring the region. We enjoyed the warmth of the wardens very much. Recommended.

Perfect place

While we were trying to find a site because of the promised record temperatures for May 2018 we came across Steamer Quay and because all the other sites we fancied were fully booked we went for it, what a result. Only 3 hard standings, none of which we were on, and only one toilet block, but what a fantastic site. Spotlessly clean, just across the road from the River Dart, bus terminal 5 minutes walk away and a short stroll into Totnes. If we lived closer we would be there a couple of times a month.
