Gem of a site

Just home from our 4th stay. We love this site as it’s in an ideal location for a short walk into town to visit the shops and pubs. The site is clean and well cared for and the wardens are great and really helpful. There is a playground for children which looks well equipped and maintained and a large dog walk area. The toilet block, dishwash and laundry facilities are clean and looked after and there is an information room with plenty of leaflets, taxi numbers and a book exchange. There are lots of walks both from the site and a little further afield and plenty of places to visit. This time we did a circular walk from Barnard Castle past the Bowes Museum and Egglestone Abbey. On previous visits we have walked round High Force and Low Force waterfalls. Durham and Richmond aren’t far away and worth a drive out to.

Excellent stay

First time staying at Teesdale Barnard Castle site. What a gem of a site. Literally 5 minutes off the A66. Lovely warm welcome from all the wardens that we met. Lovely large pitches. The facilities were clean and warm! Nice walk from the site into Barnard Castle. If you’re looking for somewhere nice to eat, try the Raby Arms in Barnard Castle. Just a word of warning the floors do slope in there! We will certainly be using this site again.

Our second outing as caravanners

Our second run (April)as new caravanners and was to get us out of our local area but give us the chance to do a longer tow, but not too long (1 1/2 hours). The first several nights away trip and the first we used the awning. Mention this as when packing it away the rock pegs were difficult to take out after the dry spell made the ground really hard and after close to an hour tugging, the decision was made to walk to reception and ask for a bit of help. It was during lunch and they would nip round in a bit. Next door arrived back in between and had all the necessary tools. The staff buggy appeared and was happy problem had been solved, but stayed for a nice chat and hints/tips for newbie towers. This was just another example of the friendliness we received from the excellent kept and run site. Great walk through the woods from the end of site, but a bit of a warning to anyone a bit unsure on the legs, it can be a bit difficult in a few places. The market town is a great place to walk around, nice views of the river from inside the castle after a walk down the riverbank and Bowes Museum a cannot miss if you are into that type of thing, we had a four hour visit there. The Three Horseshoes a nice spot for refreshment on a hot day and what was going to be a light snack in the courtyard at the back finished up filling us for the rest of the day.

Lovely campsite in good location

Recently stayed at this campsite for 2 nights. When we arrived the lady at reception was very helpful & friendly, and provided all the necessary information regarding the site facilities. She also gave us information on things to locally. We were able to drive around the site and select the pitch we wanted, with all pitches being spacious and well maintained, as is the campsite. Showers and toilets are kept very clean, with plentiful hot water. We often visit Scotland and this is the perfect halfway site for a stopover. We will definitely stay here again.

An excellent, very friendly and immaculately kept site!

We booked here for what was originally going to be 3 nights but ended up staying for over a week! The site is managed extremely well and we couldn’t fault the cleanliness at all! It was everything we were looking for and more, very close to Barnard Castle, with a lovely walk to get there through the woods, our dog loved it 🐾 On top of this though we would like to give a shout out to the team running this site! We had a problem with the car and they really did try and help, giving us numbers of garages to try. Unfortunately we couldn’t get sorted and ended up going home for a couple of days before returning to finish off our stay! We would definitely stay again! 😊

Good site for stopover

We stayed just one night, so review is limited to that. Nice welcome from the ladies in the office. Walk to barnards castle through woods which can be muddy & slippery. Road noise during the day but didn’t bother us at night. Not sure there is enough walking around & about direct from site for us, but would certainly return for a stopover on our way north or south.

Nice site but expensive

This was the 9th site we'd stayed at in our campervan after travelling around Scotland, staying at CMC and private sites. It was probably the best but also most expensive by some way. It was only half full in the second week of August. Perhaps others also feel that it is too costly. It was a lively site with large wheel spaced pitches which were flat enough not to need chocks. Amenities were clean and modern. An annoyance was finding that when using the motorhome service point (outside the shower/toilet block) there was no chemical disposal point at this location.I have never cone across this before. We had to drive to a service point to empty our cassette. If driving into town in a motorhome/campervan there is no provision for parking larger vehicles in council car parks. You will have to pay for two bays or get a ticket.

Stunning location

This site is a must for anyone. We are new to the motorhome scene and booked a last minute weekend away to use the van. Staff were so friendly and helpful . Nothing was too much trouble . Sheena and Steve have nailed this site . All the pitches were maintained to a high standard. With Barnard Castle a 15minute walk away with a quaint little Main Street where there is everything you need . Will definitely be back. Thank you Kath & Steve from Colne Lancashire

Lovely clean and well maintained site

We used Teesdale Barnard Castle as a 1 night stop off on route to Dumfries and Galloway. It was immaculate and well laid out with good sized pitches. On our return from Scotland, we had another night in Teesdale Barnard Castle. It was a lovely stopover and we have decided, next year we will incorporate this site into our holiday and not just as a stopover. The dog walks could be bigger but otherwise faultless site and very friendly staff. Worth far more than a night's stopover! Well done guys@
